If you think Smith is good, then there's another fifth rounder...
Edit: Mrazek, also a fifth, but, meh. |

Too much time left for Nashville to fully goon it up. |

The list of goalies taken in the first few rounds that didn't play any meaningful games is quite long.

They have to pray for a Leaf Game 7 collapse at this point, and that's only happened once in 100 years.

I still say use the first two rounds to draft skaters. Harder to find impact fwds and dmen in later rounds. Goalies are enigmatic and unpredictable. I have no problem with selecting goalies in rounds 3-5. |

As far as goalies go - the Leaf cupboard is pretty much empty. I think it is safe to say that Bernier is as good as gone. The North American Goalies appear much better than the Euros this year. Evan Fitzpatrick and Carter Hart are projected to be top two. Filip Guvstavson (top Euro) expected to land about #45
Top 15 goalies in the draft are projected to land before the end of the 5 round. So second, third and fourth round picks will be full of goalie picks.

So? The vast majority of starting goalies were taken in the first four rounds. The Leafs have a ton of picks to work with, so they can afford to "gamble" on a goalie or two in earlier (not first) rounds. |

The point is, many goalies have been taken with 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks and they didn't even make it to the NHL. In fact, more were picked and didn't make it than were picked and made it. Which was my original point, drafting a goalie is a crap shoot.
I'd draft skaters in the first few rounds instead of a goalie.

I agree. Next year ( I know its early ) there are 4 goalies expected to go in the first round. Ironically, one of them is named Dipietro - arguably the worst first overall pick in the history of the NHL. There were many poop first picks that never had meaningful careers but that smelly lifetime contract - for which he played 3 NHL games.

True, but just using sixth and seventh rounders is much less likely to work out.
Sparks? Seventh. Bibeau? Sixth.
The Leafs best goalie since Belfour? Reimer - drafted in the fourth round. As the other poster said, 3-5 rounds. |

Anything 4th round and higher, I'm good. I'm hoping the Leafs can draft some hidden gems in the 2nd and especially 3rd rounds with those extra picks.

He's a shadow of the goalie that played for Buffalo - unless you want him as a goalie coach. No Thanks

Bracco's ceiling is Bozak. After round two.... Goalie search. I hoping after Matthews it's D prospects till pick 61. Then goalie, goalie or trade for goalie
