Says he liked the return and was really high on the Pollock kid.
The real value, in my estimation, is in Brett Pollock and the conditional 2nd round pick. Pollock has scored at least 25 goals in three consecutive seasons and is averaging better than a point per game with Edmonton (WHL) this year. He's 19 and was a 2nd round pick so that's to be expected but is still a positive nonetheless.
The Flames don't have many quality forward prospects so he's a welcome addition in that regard. With another top-60 - potentially top-30 pick - they'll be able to add another good prospect to the system as well.
The problem with Nylander willl be the insescant rumours if him "wanting" to go play for the Leafs. - DuranDuran
What would it take to have both players on the flames? I mean Burke has done this before? There both from Calgary; seems more likely for them both here then Toronto! I have no idea what the starting point would be, any ideas?

No chance unless the Flames were going to do something stupid like Bennett and something else worthwhile.

It's the Leafs so we're talking Gaudreau and Monahan and then likely our 1st....just to get the conversation going.

Leaf fans would say Bennett...the price would be high the Leafs are really starting to get excited about Nylander so they'd have to sell a trade to their fans.
Realistic price would probably be 1 of Kylington or Anderson + since I don't think the Leafs have much of anything for d in their system...they might want Macdonald too.
Kylington and maybe 2 of our 2nds?
I might be happier just keeping our d prospects though...

The Russel trade was still a big win, I dont believe you are giving Pollock enough credit. He may end up as the best player in this trade. A scoring winger with size and plays both ends of the ice well. He carried an Oil Kings team on his back into the playoffs, surrounded by subpar players so you can't expect his stats to have that "Wow" factor. He will contribute more than Klimchuk in his first year in the A, mark my words.
Losing the 1st hurts, but I like the talent depth from pick 25 to 55. A sleeper like Sean Day, or goaltender like Zach Sawchenko would look great after picking up a few forwards with our first couple picks.
hard to believe Russell went from top pairing D to bottom pairing drag since October!!
what getting traded does to a guy! - TheNugeIsHuge
? Almost everyone on here female doged about Russell being played too much for pretty much the whole year. Every blog Todd wrote reinforced the fact that Russell was not a top 4 defender and that he was much better suited for a bottom pairing role.
I think pretty much everyone on here was happy with the trade, there's no way we could afford to extend Russell because of both cap and roster space implications.
Now if only we could convince Chia to take Wideman off of our hands and either buyout/place Smid on LTIR then the stables would be clean.

What the hell are you talking about? We all knew that Russeell should have been played as a bottom pair guy. But Hartley played him as a #3 D. And in DAL he was playing with Demers, who I believe many in EDM. are saying you guys should get to play top pair as well. That should work out well.
Morning all.
I was really hoping the Flames were going to get Dallas's 1st round pick as that would have been a prime trading chip for some immediate goaltending help but that opportunity is gone so I was thinking about some trade options that might work.
Detroit:
Howard
Jurco
Pulkkinen or Mantha
for
2016 2nd round Pick #53
2016 2nd round Pick #55
Wideman with half his salary retained
Kulak

Hell no! If we are trading for Howard (which I'd consider with the other pieces you have coming back) there is no way in hell we should retain on Wideman. They can retain on Howard since he has the longer, less desirable contract. And I'm not adding Kulak or at least 1 of the 2nds in that deal.

I'm curious about people's appetite for trades like this. Getting guys like Howard that are apparently past their prime, if they came with other useful pieces for a couple possible more years of mediocrity. What about Niemi (2 years $4.5mil) if it cam with Nichushkin if it only cost a 2nd and say, Colborne. Or like B Doug said re: Howard?

I am in. If the lottery would have been more kinda I would say no. But they need they have some pretty serious holes to plug over the next 2 years.
