I personally am not 100% sold on his offensive production as a 2nd line center but I believe he has shown enough that he should get that chance assuming they dont have a better choice.

I do not believe he is or ever will be a 1st line center but I would not be surprised at all to see him do well in a more offensive role.

I'm personally okay with Coots as a 3C if we can get a better option for the second line. I would love to see Coots score more, but his ability to shut down other team's best players is a huge part of his game and something we should take advantage of. I know he still has time to develop more offensively, but I'm fine with the role he plays now.

He paced for 51 points total. That includes ES, PP and SH. That's easily 2C production.

Like I said, "I think he is a viable 2nd line center and I am more than comfortable starting the season with him in that position assuming no other drastic changes on the team. "

I prefer it when people just ape McKenzie's consensus rankings verbatim.

I usually find myself agreeing a lot more with Button than Pronman, but I like the actual opinions they have in their rankings. Breath of fresh air among the copy and pasters of McKenzie.

Yah..Ray's voice in YoT never worked for me either..Different story with Shelter .

Im lucky having grown up in the prime of all those bands..I have seen Turning Point, Judge, Mouthpiece , Burn, Quicksand, Supertouch, GB a billion times between City Gardens, Revival , the old Middlesex County College shows..

I thought last month was like I was 20 again as I got to see Judge, Mouthpiece, Burn live...was weird seeing all the young kids and the 40 year old dudes stage diving.

Yeah, I was more in the mid-late 90's hardcore, bands like H2O, Madball, Earth Crisis, etc. Saw Judge at TIH a few years back and, honestly, they stunk. Mike was there for a paycheck. Never got to see Mouthpiece.

Well, we differ on that. Yes, we have a lot of LHD, but to me, if you ice 4 great LHD, that's not an issue.
- jmatchett383

Chicken Run has been dropping in scouts' eyes for a reason though, and it isn't overexposure. He has some big holes in his game that look like impediments to the franchise/top pairing guy he was projected as.

We could go back and forth but the game isnt just played at ES.

I think he is a viable 2nd line center and I am more than comfortable starting the season with him in that position assuming no other drastic changes on the team.

That isn't me saying he is horrible, that isn't me saying he is great. It's me saying I think he is a solid 2nd line center that could either produce more or show he is best served in a shut down role.

- opeth_pa

I am one of the bigger Couts fans here (IMO). I am extremely patient and still think he has Bergeron level potential. 60 points while being one of the best defensive centers in the game.

Going back to December, despite playing tougher minutes than literally ANY forward in the league, battling through numerous injuries, and having pretty much new linemates each week... He ended up posting 34 points in 45 games.

Thats a 62 point clip. His one true weakness is the faceoffs... but that tends to improve as players get older... so lets see what he can do the next few years there.

He is a special players... as the record indicated this year when he was in/out of the lineup.

Moving from 18 to 8 won't be cheap.

Buffalo are also desperately in need of a high end LHD prospect.

That was beyond dumb to me, but I'm no soothsayer so who knows? Still thought it was batty.

I can't see the rankings, but a few weeks ago on here I mentioned I think Keller is the 4/5 best player in the draft and a potential super star. Pronman agrees with me there apparently. That's not a ranking you'll find in the usual crowd. He loves Konency, is lower on Provy. He's far from my favorite, but I appreciate his rankings....often more in theory than reality

Its not that i dont think he is capable of being the 2C behind G, quite the opposite in fact. However, our scoring is down and we seem like we can't win those high scoring games anymore. now that could be the fact that the system was new and more scoring opportunities were down, not really sure about players individual S%'s, maybe they were very low as well, and hopefully will bounce back to career norms for some of the guys. But we played the most OT games this year, played A LOT of one goal games in addition, i think it would behoove us to get even better defensively if we wont be scoring.

now if our scoring can go up, im all for coots as a 2C. but playing both G and coots top 6 minutes, while also both being integral parts of special teams, less G in recent years but he still plays some if one of the PK guys are in the box for the penalty, its not a great recipe.

you saw G this year be absolutely worn out, you cant be wearing out your biggest offensive weapon. and coots would have if he wasn't injured. taking pressure off of G i think is the biggest thing we can do, as previously mentioned and previously re-mentioned.

- sjk540

Personally, I think the best way to take pressure of Giroux, is to lessen the burden of taking so many D zone draws. I think he was top 5 in the NHL in number of D zone draws taken. That suggests that the Flyers add a veteran defensive center for the 3rd or 4th line who is capable of taking a good number of those draws off of the responsibility of Giroux. If Couturier is the future, then he needs to be put at center on the 2nd line, and left there, in my opinion. I'd also take Giroux off of the PK, if possible.

Look at this way, other teams top lines, are going to play top minutes at ES, correct? So of Couturier is going to be matched up against those top players, isn't he also going to play the same kind of minutes? What does that make him icetime wise?

I think that'd be a waste of his offensive ability. He was practically a ppg player when he returned from injury. It's clear he has offensive skill, and it showed in his point totalk this year in the amount of games he played. I bet we see same shutdown Sean along with at least 50 pts next year assuming he stays healthy.

Wasn't there a recent article written and posted in the comments here comparing all off Cout's fancy stats to Bergeron and one or two other players? If I'm remembering correctly, in summary the article showed Couts numbers as a 22/23 year old are equivalent or close to Bergeon's numbers
