They still finished last... Getting the first pick is nothing to cheer about. It only means that you were so bad that the league needed to give you help.

So what your telling me its ok to pay so many dollars to go watch team that planned to tank. I'm sorry as a fan base you should not be happy with that so called plan. Don't get me wrong i respect my rivals, there is nothing better then MTL VS TOR on Saturday night hockey i just can't support the message the Leafs sent this year.

- Mr.FunFacts

There would be no big Mon/Tor games had this not happened. We don't even really hate you guys anymore. Just Buffalo because of Garf... And that's not right.

you sound bitter that the Leafs got the 1st overall pick..

they didn't plan a "tank".. they just rebuilt properly... and that means moving your best players for picks and prospects.. It wasn't like they didn't try to win.. As a hockey fan i'd be more pissed about being a team that relies 100% on one player.. The habs were far more embarrassing than the Leafs were..

of course you cant. you team hasn't been in the shoes that Toronto is in here. the fan base has seen mediocrity for nigh on 50 years. i agree intentional tanking is wrong. but of the league isnt going to fix it and we need the new face of the franchise you are damn right we will exploit it.

Im not so sure... I think average sized players are the norm... big enough to withstand the punishing playoffs, small enough to be highly skilled..
- Arctic_AARDVARK

You will always have your Blake Wheelers...if a player has size and skill, he can use the size to his advantage and create chances. Size doesn't necessarily mean lack of speed.

Better than paying an equivalent amount to see a poopty team that management thought could win a cup.

At least Leafs management knew what their team was made of, as opposed to the epic collapse you had to witness.

Oh and bring on the Price got hurt crying poop. He wouldn't have helped that collapse much...and I'm aware the Bruins are shell of themselves. So move along

- RickJames77

Ok sure the habs were awful god awful no excuses. However they never planned to tank a full season since day one so please don't bring up my team when they have nothing to do with the conversation.

The Leafs knew they would finish near the bottom no doubt...

but they did it the right way.. if Toronto traded their 1st this year for say Perry or Staal then we'd be pissed...

Well when you make stupid (frank)ing comments like this:

Getting the first pick is nothing to cheer about. It only means that you were so bad that the league needed to give you help.

which are a shot at another teams fans, you're damn right I'll bring up your team. I can bring whatever I want into this conversation.

Maybe we should just get rid of the first pick

like i said earlier. if the league wont fix it. i see nothing wrong with exploiting it. if you want to get all salty about maybe try convincing your team to do it as well.

You brought your team into this when you opened your mouth about ours..

Maybe the Habs shoulda planned a rebuild (not calling it a tank) this year.. they'd be better off for it now.

Even when we didn't "plan" to tank we sucked

So what would you have done different...just kept lazy old Kessel, watch him pad his career stats whilst we lose every year?

So the Leafs aren't allowed to trade pending UFAs like any other team? Or trade away their overpriced players for a package and picks and prospects like any other team? The Leafs aren't allowed to win a legitimate lottery like any other team?

This is why it is so hard to talk to leafs fans. and i'm not bitter the leafs got the 1st pick it's they way they got it. One of the best franchise's in the hockey world planning to tank is just wrong in so many ways.

The message was made clear at the start of the season (summer). Pain was coming, the season ticket holders knew what was ahead.

And the Habs adding John Scott to right the wrongs of their season was what? Commitment to winning?

would have them just over pay for every ufa and stay in mediocrity? how is that a good business model?

That is exactly what the rangers are doing and it gets them no where except one fluke appearance in the finals where they were victimized. and destroyed rather handily.
