And Brad May has a Stanley Cup ring...
He may be their best player, but when guys like Orpik, Chorney, Weber are all getting time on the back end, they're already (frank)ed... - lumlums
Orpik had good #'s this year. |

But "generational talent" ECHL had 56 points. He's the bestest playa - Steven_Seagull
Eichel dominated the entire universe.
He is looking for new dimensions of reality to dominate, as we speak.

In other "the world has gone crazy" news, James Tanner, who many of you remember as the guy who think the game of hockey can be explained through a spreadsheet, is now arguing that the single greatest determinant of success is luck.
So why even bother with advanced stats? |

Another fine example of a Tannerism. |

The leafs should have gotten Maata or Murray or the likes in this Kessel deal or not have taken any of his salary. I understand if the penguins didn't want to give up a great prospect but there getting a top 20 in the league point production guy with a wicked shot! He lacks work ethic and is afraid to go in the corners on defense but teams still need his dynamic offensive abilities.
They should have gotten more, harrington is never going to pan into anything, spaling is a middle of the road lower end player that they did get draft picks for but still no real loss to pittsburgh. And Kapanen has improved since joining the leafs but chances are he'll be a third line player at best. He's not cracking the top 6 on a contender. As for the draft pick that's hit or miss but the leafs put in the clause that if the penguins didn't make the playoff's they wouldn't even get that. A first round pick was a know brainer in this deal, just look at the other players over the past couple years that have been traded with 1st round picks included. Kessel is definitely as good as if not better then anyone on this list. If they were going to include silly conditions like this there should have also been one that says if they make the stanley cup finals they get next years 1st round pick as well.
To put in perspective people are saying okposo is going to get upwards of 6 million plus for 6-7 years. If some team is crazy enough to do that then getting a player as dynamic offensively as Kessel for 5.5 million a year is a steal for the pens.
No hard feelings to Phil he was a liability at times and definitely wasn't cut out to be the face of the franchise with all the pressures in Toronto but I still really like the guy and wish him all the best on this playoff run. Takes for your years of service and best of luck! |

You can't say they should of gotten more. Don't you think they tried?? Kessel gave them a list of teams he was willing to be traded to and they were all teams in cap hell. Retaining salary was a must in any deal. For all we know the pens may have been the only one with serious interest. |

22 days after Kyle "I don't have enough experience yet to be an NHL GM" Dubas made that deal Lou Lams was hired to be GM.
In retrospect, it may have been a good idea to be a little more patient. I guess the argument was that since the deal was made Jul. 1st, Pitt needed it done so they could focus on the vast talent available as UFA instead?
It reminds me of when the Jays needed to trade the best pitcher in the game during the offseason, so they promoted a 30 something former mailroom worker to do it. They received a number of prospects, all of which amounted to next to nothing. |

All great prospects.
I see Marners game having the most difficulty transitioning to the NHL level, he doesn't have great speed for a guy his size and i don't see the stuff he pulls off in Junior working in the NHL. I also see his stock being inflated this year by playing on one of the best lines in OHL history. Dvorak and Tkachuk are future studs in there own right.
That said he could go on to be the second best player of the group behind Mcdavid if he can transition well. His vision and hands are off the charts good. |

You guys focus too much on stats
That value of the culture change that occurred once kessel was moved is what was worth the most to the leafs. They needed to make a immediate trade to show players, staff, sponsors, and fans that the shanahan rebuild was real. |

The NHL has announced the Hodgson Award.
Awarded annually to the guy most deserving of rookie of the year, but didn't win it because the NHL are a bunch of mean poopy-heads.
Winner will be selected annually by secret ballot of Hockeybuzz voters, which will then be ignored, and Wedgie will decide. |

Babcock will teach Marner what does and what does not work in the NHL.
The kid most certainly has the skill.... The concern here is will he be strong enough to absorb the physicalality of the NHL. This summer will be all about getting stronger for Marner, not bigger, but stronger. |
