I don't think the maple leafs can retain anymore salary in trades.

I could be wrong though.

I’d be willing to go as high as:

Bernier ($2M retained, 1 year), kapanen, pitts 1st for fleury ($700k retained 3 years) and a 2nd

I think fleury is still a good goalie.

- Tumbleweed

That seems like a ridiculous overpayment.

With Gunnerson's contract ending this season, the Leafs can retain salary for two more contracts.

Marner is a class act. So glad we got "stuck" with him and not Strome

Strome will probably be pretty good too, probably around a kyle turris.

Strome seems to have put up strong numbers again this year, but I'm not sold on how his skating will translate to the NHL. I'm not saying he isn't going to be a good player. Is there any other knock on him?

His bro has also been a victim of the depth game in New York. He hasn't really had the opportunity to show his stuff. That being said, he hasn't really captured his 3rd line opportunities either. I believe he was sent down for a bit last season? Not sure if that was a conditioning thing.

I guess it’s partially in how you view fleury. I think he’s pretty good still.

I get if you think it’s too much, but how is swapping pick #27 for #57 and giving up kapanen a ridiculous overpayment?

I thought pulling a Bruin was letting players go for nothing in free agency, but good luck regardless!

I think MAF is a fine goalie ..but you also have to factor in the goalie market, contract and possibility of expansion .. they might have to expose him anyways... so you would have them over a barrel really

There's multiple ways to pull a Bruin, but the easiest way is to trade a young and promising player/prospect for a pile of poop and then proceed to shovel said poop down the throat of their fans as a win

No no no... pulling a Bruin is working hard to acquire three simultaneous picks in the first round... and then selecting three third rounders with them
