So Gorges would haven been the difference between picking first to eighth?? Sorry I don't buy that. Yah he would be slightly better than Hunwick and Gorges but he gets paid 3 times more than they do for essentially doing the same job. Hes just average dman. Dion was traded away so Gorges is better than Dion??? No way!
- ShayneCorsi

I don't think Dion is a top pairing player, but he's got a bad rap. He still is pretty good offensively

If you reread the post you will see this:

Most likely Gorges doesn't turn your team around, but he is a better player than those who were traded away in my opinion...

You said Gorges wouldn't help Toronto's defense. Dion, Gardiner and Reilly are the only ones that are better (why they weren't mentioned) so I disagree. If he is #4 out of about 8 guys on your team over the passed year...then he would make the team better. The part about 8th and last switching would be if he was there 2 years ago and never on the Sabres. I can tell you he did a lot better than Bogo or Franson would have done. I understand that was a stretch thats why I said, "you never know"...like the New York State Lottery. My point and rebuttal in and of itself stemmed from you believing Gorges wouldn't have helped Toronto win games. If you meant that Toronto was tanking and Gorges would have hurt their chances of tanking than I agree with you. Just an opinion, it may be wrong.

He's not a top pairing guy but he's a 3-4 for sure. Don't get me wrong, he's overpaid but he's much better than Gorges who's a 5-6 guy.

Perron stinks and Okposo is hurt a lot, if he can stay healthy. He didn't do much for JT in the playoffs.

Stamkos 7 years 9.5 mil = not enough
Brian Campbell 1 year 3 mil
Eriksson 3 years 6 mil = too much
Yandle 3 years 6.5 mil = too long
Okposo 4 years 5.5 mil
Perron 2 years 4 mil = would do

We had some other guys that stepped up and played well. I doubt we missed Gorges much IMO

1.) Yes but will cost more though IMO 7 years $10.5 is a start
2.) Yes
3.) Yes but will want more term which I am not giving him
4.) See above
5.) He is going to get more term and probably $7 million per season so he is a no
6.) Eh I want better

Perron is better than Moulson
Okposo just played 79 of 82 games.

Those are the only UFA's I'd even sniff around about.

Question:

Sign Stamkos for 10 or 11 mil per

or

Throw an offer sheet at Kucherov for 8mil per

- MCGUIZZY

or neither.

either way, no way you can pay similar money to Kucherov and then shell out all those draft picks.

If the Sabres don't sign/trade for a #1 dman does McCabe move up to the 1st pairing or would Gorges stay there? McCabe and Bogo had decent chemistry but McCabe seems to have more upside compared to Gorges and playing with Risto could free up McCabe some to get himself better scoring opportunities.
- doppelthat

I've thought for a couple years now that McCabe & Ristolainen would end up paired together eventually
If we can't trade for a partner for Risto, like Lindholm or whoever...
I wouldn't mind seeing them get a shot together

I see Gorges being a guy that slides down in the pairings as young guys move up
