Some speculate that seeing that kid die on the bench right next to him in Russia sparked it. Also he's 43? So he doesn't have many years left and wants to make the most of them. He has nothing to tie him down, no wife or kids, so it's easy to go workout at 2 in the morning. Hockey is basically all he has and he likely wants to preserve it as long as possible.
