Thing is, Fowler handles a lot of minutes for them at a pretty good price, doesnt make much sense for a budget team to want to move that.

My assumption is Vatanen as well but I don't know what his or Lindholms ask would be.

Edit: Years may be an issue as well

- Sabresfan-365

But Fowler is also part of that core that's been failing in the postseason for a few years. He might be on his way out.

I remember now that you said you were from Calgary. I knew Alberta, but Alberta is huge, so I wasn't sure if you were near it or not. Golf season started pretty early here. We didn't get a whole hell of a lot of snow, so the courses are pretty dry already instead of the usual marshes until July. I hope to be able to get out this year, but with my back I'm not sure if I will... I bought a really nice set of brand new clubs 2 years ago and haven't been able to use them yet other than once at the range. I'm kind of trying to get rid of them, but don't really want to even though I know I probably should.

McKenzie reporting Caggiula will be signing with Edm or Van, looks like we're still missing out in hockey heaven. If anyone thinks we have enough pull to convince Stamkos to sign here, they're kidding themselves.

the last high profile college kid Edmonton signed was Schultz so dont panic just yet. I think Philly is still in the mix for him as well for what its worth

I would also guess Vatanen. I think the "they'll keep the cheaper option" is a smokescreen to get Lindholm to a friendly hit. Because he's a game changer. Vatanen's no slouch, but he's just not as good as Lindholm.

Sure, but since Pegula's taking over as owner, just off the top of my head

Richards
Parise
Suter
Babcock
That college guy Toronto signed

have all told us to suck it, and now we can add Caggiula to that list, and I'm sure there's more. After 4-5 years of Pegula's overhaul of the organization, it still seems like we're not much better a destination for UFA's.

Well, please, tell me where I'm wrong with my statement? Since Pegula took over the team we've been told that Buffalo will be a place where UFA's want to go. It's been 4-5 years and that doesn't seem to be the case. If I'm wrong, show me where and I'll change my opinion. But if you can't provide examples where we've been at the top or coming out on top in luring high-profile UFA's than just go back to sticking your head in the sand.

Dood, hockey talk is fun and all, but I can't resist a good Devo plug. The band was incredible for many reasons, not the least of which is they sounded like a nerdy-techno band, but really used a live drummer on their records and live (the drummer from Tool played with them for at least a while...there's a video out there from the 90s I think w/ him). Their videos were awesome...I grew up w/ MTV from the second week they ever broadcasted on cable, and Devo had some of the funnest stuff out there. And who the fudge does not like Whip It?

My fave is Smart Patrol/ Mr. DNA...just killer riffs, intelligent lyrics, and attitude up the A$$. Boom.

Does O'Reilly count? He was a year away from UFA status, signed here pretty quick once we got him.

Ok, well the Richards year we got the top guy that didn't have a team he wanted to play for his entire life. Sure he was a massive bust, but that's not really on the Sabres. He was the 2nd guy. Other than Parise and Suter who else that was a big name was out there? I really can't remember. Then we had 2 tank years in which we signed a pretty decent name in Moulson. And this year has yet to happen. Who are these top free agents you're speaking of? Last year was Frolik, Mike Green, Francois Beauchemin, Matt Beleskey. That's the cream of last years crop. The year before was an over the hill Dan Boyle, an over the hill Iginla, we signed a bigger albeit over the hill name in Gionta, Brooks Orpik, Mike Cammalleri, and Miller and Vanek which really don't belong because we got rid of them. So who are these guys that are game changers you want?

Gorges pissed off quite a few Leafs fans when he refused to go there but accepted a trade to Buff.

He definitely does to me, but I doubt he does to skidoo. And Erhoff too. He was originally traded to the Islanders to whom he said "thanks, but no thanks." then he was traded here and we signed him. Regehr waived his no-move to come here, so that's pretty much the same.

I would not consider Brad Richards as an UFA that did not choose Buffalo.

When his agent said that anyone who was interested in him had to drive up to Canada to meet him, Pegula said (frank) that.

The Sabres never even pursued Richards. And they made the right choice.

I think you're missing the point I was making. I never said it would be a good idea to sign any of those guys you just stated, what I am referring to is the fact that when Pegula took over we were told things are going to change on how UFA's looked at us, that has not happened. For whatever reason Pegula didn't get his man in Doan, Richards, Parise, Suter, Babcock, Bailey, and now Cagguila and I'm sure there's more. These are all guys we pushed hard for and they said no. Erhoff and Reigr we trade for their rights so we had no competition for their services, and even then Erhoff couldn't leave fast enough. Schultz in Edmonton said no to us also back when Pegula first got here.

We took the past few years off for the rebuild and now that we're back looking for UFA's to come here it seems we're back on the NO wagon. But I guess we'll have to still see what Vessy and Stamkos does.

But Gionta was never a bigger name than Iginla or Boyle, and when did we ever have Brooks Orpik or Cammalleri?

You also need to remember that the Sabres have sucked since Pegula became owner. Honestly, who would want to go to a bad team regardless of what the city is>

Winning helps attract free agents. Now that they are rebuilding and seem to be improving, let's wait and see what happens. Even if they don't get Stamkos or Vesey.

That's pretty much what I just stated. When Pegula first got here, we weren't all that bad, we were a bubble team. He tried to bring in the names and other UFA's like college guys and we were turned down then. We took a few years off in pursuit to do the rebuild and now we're looking again, but so far it appears we're still being told no by UFA's that we're going after. Time will tell, but so far we haven't lured really anybody that's been coveted by multiple teams.
