Word is the Sens were outbid by more than $1M according to Yost. It's not that they didn't get the guy they wanted. It's that they didn't get him because they are undervaluing a potential asset. I can't help but wonder who else doesn't sign in Ottawa because of lowball offers.

If even Alfie doesn't sign because of this kind of poop, you know the team is unable to compete in any bidding war.

My feeling is a little different. The majority here see BB as the best and only option as coach. Personally, I think he's overrated and has yet to have experience with a team in transition like Ottawa. So "undervaluing" him in my mind, it perfectly fine. Move on, find another experienced coach who will fit well with this core.

From an unbiased standpoint, it seems by tweets, that Minny provided a better offer and Ottawa was unwilling, unable, or didn't get a chance to match the offer put forward by Minny. It's a little concerning. If you want a guy you should be willing to pony up from the get go. Seems a little similar to the Alfie situation.

Bright side, more money for a player? As all the other coaches available will not command such a rich deal as BB got.

Apparently BB had Ottawa as his #1 choice going in, but that changed once he talked to them and there was no commitment compared to Minnesota.

Tough to blame his decision. If the team isn't going to commit to you, you don't need to commit to them. The Sens organization has looked so much worse in terms of optics over the last few years and it's not improving. Hard to imagine how it's possible to put a half decent contender together in that kind of climate.

I think he would have been a good fit, but I'm equally interested in Yeo myself. The thing is that they DID want to sign him, and this is the offer they put forth. Less than they offered Chris Neil. If they wanted him, which they seemed to, they would have put forth what they saw as a serious offer for a quality coach. They came forth with an absurdly low number. I don't mind that the next coach won't be Boudreau. I mind that the Sens lose guys they want because they don't do valuations and market well.

Sens will get a coach, I'm putting my chips on Yeo. I just wonder who the next casualty to lowball offers will be? Sens are NOT trying to assemble the best team they can. They are trying to get the team that is the best value. A team that is good, but not expensive. I'm not sure that a team can make a cup run with the constraints of the financial situation. I'm not just talking on the ice. Sens have one of the thinnest and lowest paid hockey ops department in the league as well. This is a top to bottom problem, and whether or not I agree about trying to get Boudreau, I see a problem with valuation. They are trying to do something that , likely, cannot be done.

I agree with most of this. We are a budget team. We all know this.

To me, this is similar to the David Clarkson stuff in terms offering a person more than he is worth. By missing out, you may in fact dodge a worse bullet. Again, my opinion on BB is different than most.

I can totally see the other side of the coin though. What happens with the Hoffman negotiations now? How can we ever possibly lure a legit free agent when we are always low balling offers? We still have Karlsson to sign in 3 seasons. It's a sticky situation. You can't win by building the best economical value team. The teams remaining all have a few guys getting paid more than they should, but still play a role for the team.

Problem is the owner.....what was he doing insisting being part of the interview...this does not occur with other teams....he held everything up and we lost our guy

Apparently money was pretty close but the Sens didn't add a 4th (and necessary) year to the deal. 4 years for a coach is a long time, especially with no track record for a particular team. Personally, I think we dodged a bullet. Get an equally experienced guy for less money and term. Let them earn more years. They have ample time to select the correct guy for this core.

I know a lot of people are turning this to a negative thing, but I think it's for the best.

This has nothing to do with Boudreau. ....this has to do wit ottawa not getting their guy because of financial restrictions on management. I'm so sick of giving my money to an owner who refuses to re-invest it into the team.

Have you ever gone shopping for a Ferrari? Me neither, because I can't afford it, so I don't even bother.

Why was Doiron even brining in Boudreau to Ottawa if he didn't have the $$$ to sign him. He knew he'd be in a bidding war.

Not saying don't interview him, but don't do it in downtown Ottawa where Boudreau talks about the team and players. Do it in Toronto so you don't get burned by it and nobody sees you guys.

Really stupid mistake by Doiron that this is in the press and they lost a bidding war. What a bad way to begin your GM term, stupid to let Boudreau come to Ottawa and talk to the press.
