What's with all the Kapanen hate from Leaf fans? I constantly see them including him in trades without giving him much worth or value? - TandA4Flames
I won't label myself a Leaf fan but I follow a bit so I'll give it a shot:
I think the Leafs have a pretty deep prospect system right now and Kapanen has been passed by a few others. I've also heard Kapanen has had some consistency issues playing up to his ability on a nightly basis in the AHL.
But mostly I think it is that he has been passed on the prospect depth chart and a lot of fans think they would be better served packaging him (and potential other prospects) to address other current needs. They are just more valuable to other teams who have depleted prospect pools. The Leafs will likely be starting to get crowded after this draft. |

MAF has had no signs of slowing down. Prior to this injury he's played his best hockey since 08.
If it weren't for Murray I'd never dream of trading Fleury and would feel confident about the Pens chances of continuing to win.
MAF is 100% worth the #6 overall. - Rinosaur
well he's not so there's that
Maybe if Dallas can win this round Calgary will give up their 1st for MAF
you are sure as poop not getting 6th overall |

Any specific reason for the hostility or are you just a message-board-tough-guy? - Rinosaur
No hostility. I just find it annoyingly humorous when people suggest CGY will trade Hamilton or high picks for an older goalie or for anything, really. Hamilton was just acquired. He just turned 22 and is quickly becoming a top offensive threat from the back end. Plus, he's 6'4' and a right shot. There is no logic in what people propose. CGY is still in the rebuild phase as well and only starting to sort their core. I just wish people would put more thought behind their proposals instead of just their wet dreams, especially when you include (from CGY's perspective) guys like Hamilton, Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett and TJ Brodie. It won't happen unless it's ONE HELL OF A DEAL!! |

Tired of my bullpoop after what, three posts? You may need some therapy. Now go away. - Rinosaur
Yes I'm the one who needs therapy when it's your proposals that are being called deluded by pretty much everyone, including other Pens fans... |

i know matt murray has been outstanding but i can't believe pens fans are ready to trade MAF based on such a small sample size.
Could work out well and Murray go on to be elite but that could also blow up and end awfully.
Not a knock on murray at all - kids been unreal - but thats risky |

Schneider was traded for the #8 overall and that was before he was as dominant as he has been recently. That being said, I think it would be Fleury + Pens 2nd rounder for that pick. - MacPatty

I think pens fans are open to the idea because Murray was unreal in the AHL and has been great in a small sample, but under the the most high pressure situation. We also have TJ still playing in WBS and the thought of freeing up 5+ mil a season, plus acquiring assets, is an appealing proposition. |

NTC's dimish trade value.
happened time and time again. No reason to think differently for MAF ... really, just worse with the impending expansion draft. |

I think MAF would be a good it for Calgary, but he's not worth the #6. Maybe a late first round pick, a third round pick and the rights to Colborne? Thats the most I'd give though. |
|
|
|
Trading MAF would also be doing the Pens a big favor cap wise...they are really up against it and going with Murray could be their saving grace
late first (Dallas)
or 2 2nds though not the mother facking 6th overall pick its just not happening

that's the stupidest comment I have ever heard. Fleury is a top notch goalie and any team would give their 1st round pick plus, plus. |

|
|
Looking at the landscape of which teams need a starting goalie, I would suggest Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo in no particular order. Let the bidding begin on Draft Day to see who comes up with the best package or early pick for the rights to Mark Andre Fleury. |

Why would we want to trade MAF for a draft pick. The team needs some prospects but, we are in a prime winning window now.. our defense is young enough and the forwards are reasonably young too. I think we need to fit someone next to 87and 72..
MAF and Pouliot MAF and a pick
for or
JVR and (fill in blank) JVR
Sid could use a guy with his speed and talent going to the net. let horny pick up garbage.Sheary is a nice player just don't see a long term fit on the top line. |

Haha if you think there will be a bidding war you are kidding yourself. Vancouver does not need a goalie right now, they are gonna be tank nation for the next few years...as is Toronto and I think Edmonton will roll with Talbot.
Basically leaves 3 teams. Calgary, Ottawa, Buffalo. Between MAF, Reimer, 1 of Eliot or Allen, 1 of Bishop & Vasilevskiy, 1 of Gibson or Anderson, Cam Ward, hell even guys like Steve Mason and Neuiverth, those 3 teams are going to be able to shop around. No way will they get stuck in a bidding war for any of those names. Aside from maybe Bishop, Gibson or Anderson if they are SUPER high on them. |

Murray would take a top 2 pick for the Pens to even consider trading him. They would likely turn it down. |
|
|
|
MAF would take the number 6 pick in the draft to trade him. Maybe with Pittsburgh throwing in a 2nd. |
|
|
|
So why lose Fleury in the expansion draft and get nothing instead of trading him and get something? - sparky
Every team is going to lose a good player in the expansion draft. So if we trade Fleury we need to get something of value. Either a top ten pick or similar to what we gave up to get Kessel - a 1st, Kap (basically a 2nd first), and B prospect. |
|
|
|
If he's on the team they'll protect him. Again I doubt the 6th pick for Murray will happen. But to get a top ten pick for a former 3rd round pick is crazy value. - tomburton99
Reasoning blows. Lundqvist was a 6th round pick. Your telling me you wouldn't trade a 6th pick for lundqvist. Also why the Pens wouldn't even entertain that offer on murray. Murray has been dominant for 2 years now. He was just buried behind Fleury. |
