There is no reason to have fluery start and Murray sit next season and u can't do vice versa... Only option is trade fluery for a 1st rd pick...
As for kuni I think 3rd rdr is the best we can get. Then we have a pick in each rd...
As for a free agent lw... I still like Boedker but not at a 4mil or up price... Rather give some of that to schultz - nh4442
Why not just do a split? Fleury and Murray can split starts next season. |

I don't understand why people aren't considering this as an option. In a perfect world where there's no expansion draft what we would want to do is have Fleury and Murray split starts next season while Murray is still on ELC and we can accommodate both, and ride the hot hand down the stretch into the playoffs. Then, depending on Murray's extension, reevaluate. If he's gonna get paid like a franchise goaltender right off the bat look into dealing Flower. If not and he gets a cheapish bridge, consider keeping Murray's mentor around and let Murray naturally win the crease and trade Flower when that time comes. |

You've got an awful lot of cap tied up in a position that you're split on. My only beef. I'd personally keep fleury at least until trade deadline. You need to be absolutely sure Murray is what he's shown now. |

Only Calgary imo so they might be better of waiting for the deadline anyways.

I think the likelihood of a bridge for Murray is unlikely anyways. That was more me talking from the heart concerning MAF and wanting to rationalize keeping him an extra year. If it weren't for the expansion draft, I think the odds would go something like 20% chance he's traded at this year's draft, 5% he's traded at the deadline next year, 74% chance he's traded in the 2017 offseason, 1% chance he's retained beyond that point. |

6 mil for a solid tandem? I'd take that. It's not nearly as bad as Dallas with 10.5 million into 2 below average tendies. Doesn't even have to be a 50/50.. could be 60/40 or 65/35. |

Sounds like you'll be pretty pissed tomorrow as well! - Aussiepenguin
Last year I was insufferable. Got so drunk I started walking up to random strangers claiming I was Phillip Rivers and trying to sell my autograph for 5 bucks. I'm a early 20s year old 5'8 unathletic hispanic kid. How I thought I could pull that fast one on people is beyond me. |

You mean your profile pic isn't you??
There's always something worse you could have done, doesn't reduce the hangover depression any though telling yourself that!
Taking all your clothes off at 4am out the front of your then girlfriends house & then knocking on the front door waking her mother up & having her answer the door is a pretty good example! (I still see the mother from time to time & she still speaks to me! ). |

Since we're talking a little about cap space I did a little exercise last night with all players signed through at least next season(16-17). All cap #'s are from General Fanager, In parantheses is cap hit and how many more years under contract starting with 2016-17 season:
Sheary(575k,last season)-Sid(8.7m,9seasons)Hornqvist(4.25m,2seasons)=13.5m
Hagelin(4m, 3seasons)-Bonino(1.9m, last season)-Kessel(6.8m, 6 seasons)=12.7m
Kuhnhl(625k, 2seasons)-Geno(9.5m, 6 seasons), Sprong(692k, 2seasons) 10.8m
Wilson(625k, 2seasons)-Fehr(2m, 2seasons)-Rust(640k, 2seasons)=3.265m
That's a total of $40,307,500 in 12 forwards. I went under the assumption that Cullen retires and maybe Kunitz too. I think Kunitz is gone some way, so I left him off.
For the D:
Maatta(4.083m, 6seasons)- Letang(7.25m, 6 seasons) = 11.33m
Dumoulin(800k, last season)-Daley(3.3m, last season) = 4.1m
Pouliot(863k, last season)- Cole(2.1m, 2 seasons)= 2.963m
Total $ spent on 6d = $18, 396, 333
Fleury(5.575m, 6 seasons)
Murray(620k, last season)
two goalies = $6,370,000
Also add in 1.125m for Scuderi retention if he doesn't retire and Pens have used $66,198,833 in cap space. In conclusion Pens have at least $5mil in cap space to re sign Schultz and get a depth forward or two if cap stays the same. Sorry for the novel |

Wow I didn't hear. That is absolutely awful. My aunt went through that and it was very hard on her and my uncle. Thoughts and prayers to the unborn and the Letang family... - Victoro311
My wife and I experienced that a couple years ago after 2.5 months. It really hurts. Luckily we put fear aside a year or so later and we had our son without issue. Its so hard to console or be consoled. They def. have my deepest sympathy. |

Thanks. You saved me some work for after the season concludes because I wasn't going to deal with this until the end of hockey. Do your calculations take into account the rise in the cap by ~3mil?
Either way, basically proves my point that the Pens are fine, cap wise. Priority number 1 this offseason is getting Kunitz off the books.
EDIT: Just saw that this is with the cap staying the same. That makes even moving Kunitz not urgent. I don't want Schultz for more than 3 mil anyways. |

Nope. Went off the safer assumption it stays stagnant. So Pens could have ~8mil in space if it does indeed rise like the latest reports have stated. Lets hope Kunitz retires after season and Pens will have plenty of space.

Yeah just saw and edited my post. If the cap does rise, it's not even imperative to move Kunitz, even though its still the smart thing to do. I don't want Schultz for more than 3 mil anyways. |

Two things this am....
1) remember when this team was "too soft" and that they needed enforcers and guys to fight... Well they are beating the most physical team 3-1 and they are delivering the same hits.. Grant it some have been suspension worthy..
2) UFA Caggiula announcement should be coming today or this weekend... I really hope it's the pens but I can see him going to leafs, chi, fla or det |

Agreed. He's not worth that much. He's a 6 or 7d on this team right now. Will move up to maybe 5 or 6 next season if signed. People female dog about Cole's $2.1m as a bottom pairing guy, but people wanna sign Schultz something north of 2.5m. I don't get it. If he didn't sign that giant 1st contract, then maybe people would give him more realistic hypothetical offers. I'd give him 3 year 2 per. Take it or leave it.
