Failure is not an option. Except it technically is.

Barry Trotz and Ruff nominated for Jack Adams along with Gallant.

First two are so meh. Those are two amazingly stacked teams....and they finished around where people thought they would. Nothing surprising. Trotz isn't getting bounced, but Sullivan deserved to not only get nominated but win. The turn around of the Pens has been nothing short of miraculous: from play to record. They were a bottom dweller before he completely led that 180 turn.

Could've been worse, I guess...could've nominated Dave Lowry.....

Hak should have been nominated.

Dunno... Sullivan didn't really have to do too much. He had a stacked team, too. The previous coach loved playing Cole and Scuderi a million minutes per game for some reason.

Really? He turned them from one of the worst possession teams in hockey to one of the best this year. His personnel decisions are an important part. They are a very good team -- not on the level of Caps or Stars on paper imo -- but he maximized their abilities; constructed a system around them instead of with them. I think you're underselling him a bit. When Johnson was fired, the Pens were in top 10 pick territory.

It's kind of the Craig Berube thing... sometimes the timing of the pendulum swing can make you look like a genius. But yeah, Sullivan was smart enough to unleash his stars, particularly his puckmovers. Trading for Daley helped too.

As for Gallant... FLA rode high SH and SV %'s all year. I'm betting they come crashing back down to earth next season, a la Colorado from a couple of seasons ago.

Yeah, if we're talking about who did the most with the least, for me it would be between Hak and Bill Peters. They really took teams that were playing the wrong way and got them on a solid foundation.

I preferred the circular discussions about Bobby Ryan. At least with him, there was actually a chance that he'd choose Philly for sentimental reasons.

Stamkos wanting to come to Philly to compete with G for icetime makes me lol.

- Tomahawk

I highly doubt his going some place will be affected by having to compete for ice time. first and second line centers get plenty of ice time. He will base his decision on the most money or where he thinks he can win (perhaps a little of both together).
