It's impressive how well guys like Daley, Hagelin, and Cullen have fit into their system plus the contribution from the younger guys.
I wonder if Fleury has played his last season there. That is a controversial idea but I think I'd look to trade him this summer because Murray looks like the real thing. - Marc D
The Caps are a much better team on paper than the Pens. But the Pens play with ultra high intensity and speed and skill...most of their d men are puck movers, not stay at home guys. And they tend to play more with the puck than without it. The Pens squeeze every last drop out of what they have. Now, this series has been a lot closer really than 3 games to 1, but the Caps, the "best team in hockey," should be capable of systematically dismantling teams. They're not. Hell, the Flyers matched them at ES. And I thought they were too guilty of trying to play eye for an eye against the Caps. They want to hit and grind and play slow...we don't have to do that when our roster rounds into form in the coming years. Flyers should not be trying to match the model of a team that can't make it past the 2nd round.
And if they don't/can't trade Fleury, he's probably target numero uno for the Las Vegas Strippers. And also for that new Vegas expansion team. |

You know Patrick Roy can't help himself.... and poor Joey Sakic doesn't seem to have veto power. |

see the worrisome part is, he has a NTC. and if you're forced to protect those guys, matt murray will be the guy who is poached.

The advance stats guys are going to hate him. His weakness is his puck skills and ability to move the puck. You are talking a lot of short passes and chip outs off the glass much like a lot of defensemen the stats crowd hate such as Grosssmann, L. Schenn, and Schultz. - psuhockey
You do realize that Radko Gudas was the fancy stats stud on the Flyers blueline this season, right?
The modern day defensive defenseman are guys who protect their blue line like Fort Knox. - PhillySportsGuy

And it's the most neglected part of a d man's game when it comes to scouting or assessment. Excellent gap control is the ultimate prophylactic for a d man. |

the return for goalies has been not great historically and his cap hit works against a great return, but they free up space and should get something worthwhile back |

Good point. Hamilton is actually a great comparable - Mordecai
I think the difference is in the way league execs value their respective games tho.
There's still a bias in front-offices against dmen (especially big ones) who aren't truculent and aren't polished w/o the puck. Meanwhile, Trouba's the kind of guy that makes 99% of GMs' tongues roll out of their mouths... he's basically Shane Doan on defense.
The former you might be able to steal from an idiot GM for a relative pittance (lol Boston) -- the latter... good luck. |

goalie returns havent been that great, youre right. and if thats how the expansion draft is going to work, they are going to have 0 leverage. combined with the cap hit. yeah i wouldnt expect a big return.
its still just crazy to even consider moving on from him, but matt murray is the future |

Trouba took a step back this year, basically the first tough spot for him since coming into the league balls on fire. He would be a great investment but the salary demands are concerning. He needs to be accepting to a bridge deal. Word is he is seeking a big pay out, for many years.

Amazed they won that game without Letang. I honestly think he has been the best player on the ice for much of this series.
It may be their year. - Marc D
Frank the Pens. They got 4 GENERATION players in my lifetime alone. Bananas.
They've already got one more cup than the Flyers.

you make your own luck. especially when the other dman not once but twice redirects the puck to a wide open back door player with a 5 hole in front of him the size of the grand canyon.

I would offer him the same deal Hamilton got and not feel one ounce of regret.
