dunno, remember jfj? picked the cheapest option with him. - daeth
Well ok fair enough, but they still spent poop ton on players.
I don't think they picked jfj cause he was cheapest, think they did it because they (management/owner) could control him. |

pre-lockout they were always a top 5 payroll team but with how much they made they should've be 1st by a lot but they never bothered trying that lol |

He would have played for 2 milliion a season, paid out over 20 years. That was the deal Gretz went in with. Read 67. You'll (frank)ing want to punch your balls. - weirdoh
Wow, I didn't know it was that. Wtf. They would have sold 2 million a year in Gretzky Leaf merch. That's just stupid. |

Yeah, no winter and just the regular thing of being established in a place and not wanting to move is a factor. The big stage and affinity for the logo can be a draw, but only if it's a good situation. The management group helps there, making this thing seem legit in Toronto now. Guess we'll see. I do wonder what was left to haggle over if he was going to resign in TB? Why play hardball and go to UFA, make your GM answer questions about it and so on?
I do think winning is a factor. The Red Wings were a magnet for good players because they were always contenders. - Zezel
Brian Lawton, who clearly doesn't know as much as Garth, said that family is really important to Stamkos and that his gut feeling is that if he doesn't reup inTB, it's Toronto. |

There was another chapter. Leafs got called out back in whatever year that all they had to do was give them the offer card or have them sign themselves to the team. They got called out to Parry SOund. Some 14 year old was looking good. Leafs showed up..meh, kids too small. Needs more work. They ended up giving the card to some other guy. The kid that was too small to play?

That sounds good...I keep coming back to why go to UFA in the first place, how much negotiation could there possibly be? There's no wacky creative long contracts anymore or anything, it's pretty straightforward years and value. Is he holding their feet to the fire for an extra half million? |

Yup. They could have had Orr. How about Gerry Cheevers playing 2 game for the Leafs before being traded away.
Sorry, not even traded. Just let go somehow. |

You guys have Lou now. I'm certain he's going to fleece someone for a goalie in the very near future. He rarely loses a trade.
See- Ilya Kovalchuk and the pick that became John Merril, for Oduya and a pocket full of crap. |

Even better when you consider the leafs made sure they didn't finish last the year after that trade....didn't want the pick to be lindros |

Wonder what Lindros reaction would have been to being drafted by the Devils. They weren't close to being the franchise they became in the 90's. Also it may have spared Lindros the Stevens hit. |

Yeah - going through his trade history, nothing really jumped out as a clear loss for him. |
