He got Schneider - NHL ready number one on almost any team - for a number 7 pick - he can get one of the two Duck goalies for cheaper.

You don't get credit for fleecing the Canucks of a goalie.

Anyone can do it.

Even Florida.

And it's asinine, naive and incomprehensible to think that Atomic Wedgie does not want Carrie Underwood in his bed, naked and tipsy.

See what I did there?

- Atomic Wedgie

I did.

So, if Lou has as much of a shot of acquiring a starting goalie as you do of getting Fisher's wife in the sac, then 2013 draft day must have been a fantastic time for you

Back to the D conversation:

What about Nielsen (righty) and Desrocher (lefty)? Both have size. Wondering what is their max potential?

Saw a bit of Desrocher in some O games online, he looked good. Haven't seen any of Nielsen though.

Side note: I really like Harrington when he was up. Can't put my finger on it exactly but I have a feeling we are under rating him.

Carrick is going to be a good one.

Reilly, Harrington
Gardiner, Carrick
Nielsen, Zaitsev
Desrocher

????

- underhill14

Nielsen is a big left-handed d-man that can skate and score. I'd project him as a very good 2nd or 3rd pairing d-man in the end

Dermott is the same way but a little more creative offensively. We have two very good prospects there

Harrington will never be a top pairing guy. He's got less potential then the two above mentioned

I don't think Desrocher has a future in the NHL. He looked good cause he was a 20 year old playing against younger kids. He'll have alot to prove on the Marlies

If I had to do a long term projection Id say

Dermott - Rielly

Gardiner - Zaitsev

Nielsen - Carrick

Harrington - Valiev

Were also going to be drafting ALOT of d-men in the next two drafts as well

The Leafs could also try to own two AHL teams. I was told this would be theoretically be permitted. More ice time for prospects?

It's the forwards fault for not supporting the D's, it's the goalies fault for allowing weak goals.

Lou's recent record of drafting goalies:

2013, 7th round: Anthony Brodeur (!)

2010, 6th round: Maxime Clermont

2005, 2nd round: Jeff Frazee

2004, 6th round: Josh Disher

2003, 6th round: Jason Smith

2000, 5th round: Matus Kostur

1999, 1st round: Ari Ahonen

1997: 1st round Jean-Francois Damphousse

1997, 8th round: Scott Clemmensen

So for the past 20 years, the best goalie Lou selected was Clemmensen - in the 8th round.

Any chance we are over-rating Lou's mystic abilities to select goalies?

- Atomic Wedgie

Drafting goalies is generally a crap shoot - Just ask the Islanders who drafted DiPietro 1st overall and gave him a lifetime contract - that was a smelly one.

Top 11 goalies (modern era and an arguable list - draft began in 1963)

Price (5th overall) 2005 ROUND 1
Dryden (14th overall) 1964 ( by Boston) six team league - ROUND 3
Hasek (199th overall) 1983 ROUND 10 (by Chicago)
Brodeur (20th overall) 1990 ROUND 1
Roy (54th overall) 1984 ROUND 3
Fuhr (8th overall) 1981 ROUND 1
Esposito (undrafted) 1968
Parent (undrafted) 1969
Vachon (undrafted) 1968
Lunquist (205th overall) ROUND 7
Belfour (undrafted) 1989

Not a high percentage move to take a goalie high. And in they develop slow in general. I would judge too many GM's on their goalie drafting abilities from the above list.

hard to ice 3 teams with a 50 contract limit

or does a one way AHL contract not count against that?
