That's because a lot of people that are actually employed by the NHL and/or it's franchises, or get paid to evaluate talent, don't have their (frank)ing blinders on, and realize it's their duty, as well as prudent, to look beyond the common perception or the obvious when it comes to drafting youth.
How else do you draft a HOF'er in the 6th round ?
There just might be some broken hearts in Leaf nation come draft day. - LakesideBlues
Not counting watters, no one.
You think drafting hof'ers in the 6th round is good drafting and not luck?

It is a mistake to think that Matthews will not face a huge culture shock and some difficulty in adjusting to a major Canadian hockey market. He has never played in an intense media situation and when he has had even limited exposure (World Juniors) he has come up a little short. All his interviews have him sounding like an introverted Phil Kessel. Why not think about Laine? I guess the really exciting part of the story is the Jets get to reprise the Finnish Flash (part II)

He went from the US to Switzerland. No culture shock.
Yet coming to Canada is somehow a totally different world. |

"Listen to my interview with former Leafs Assistant GM Bill Watters, as we discuss Toronto’s lottery win, Auston Matthews, Stamkos and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. "
The interview where Wilbur lets it slip that he WAS a Leafs fan?
What a (frank)ing joke
Time for a new schtick MIB

Lucky like Ozzy Osbourne picking Randy Rhodes out of 10,000 (guessing) auditioning guitar players ?
Poor analogy i suppose, but he seen something in him he didn't see in others.
To answer your question, yes i think it's good drafting. I mean, when a scout/draft team does it repeatedly well, there's a pattern there. See : Detroit.

No its luck more than anything. The whole Detroit draft thing has been debunked. Settle down.
If I saw something i wanted and liked and it stood out more than the rest I sure as (frank) wouldn't wait to take it. |

But there are so many cameras in the NHL! No other rookie has ever had to endure such madness. I don't think he can do it guys, the Leafs should just trade their first pick for the superstar that is Kyle Turris. Of course they'd have to include Rielly or something to even things out. Remember that time he scored a goal in the playoffs? Oh boy!
ok im done |

I have faith in what Lou and co. do, regardless of who they pick. They've obviously done a stellar job so far with this rebuild.
If they don't pick Matthews are you gonna lose your mind ?
Nevermind, don't answer that. I'm sure it would only be a ten word antagonizing sentence anyways.

Well, drafting has changed now that the league is all speed/skill. Smallish euros were readily skipped over for big truculent power forwards; don't think there's as many Datsyuks or Zetterbergs floating around out there in the late rounds nowadays. |

Why on earth is picking the 1st overall luck? You picked anyone you wanted. That is such a stupid comment.
If you pick a guy 200th and he turns into a hhof then you're lucky. |
