How much cap space do we see us having going into the draft/UFA season? .....I'd imagine we're not going to hang on to Bozak, Lupul, Michalek, Greening, Cowan, Robidas, Laich, maybe even JVR.... or any of the pending UFA's like Grabner, Parenteau, or Boyes.....not to mention Horton on LTIR...What are we thinking? 20 million free?

I listened to Augello's conversation with Bill Watters, which I always enjoy. He seems quite ambivalent about Matthews and pointedly enthusiastic about Laine. At several points he seems to insinuate that Mark Hunter might look beyond Matthews. But he concedes what I think is true, that teams with the first pick pretty much have to take the presumptive top prospect.

I don't know anything whatsoever about prospects other than what I read. Somebody convince me that Matthews is not a Yakupov or Johnson first overall, that he's a no brainer home run first overall. Watters is freaking me out.

poop toolsie, that's all you had to say. That's the kind of thing I've been reading about Matthews, so I was surprised at Watters' suggestion. He wasn't saying this is the big power centre, exactly what the Leafs need. Just curious about that.

That's because a lot of people that are actually employed by the NHL and/or it's franchises, or get paid to evaluate talent, don't have their (frank)ing blinders on, and realize it's their duty, as well as prudent, to look beyond the common perception or the obvious when it comes to drafting youth.
How else do you draft a HOF'er in the 6th round ?
There just might be some broken hearts in Leaf nation come draft day.
