No way Edmundson gets protected over JBo. A guy struggling on top pairing is way more important to keep than a guy struggling on bottom pairing. heck, there is still a chance it will be Lindbohm playing here next year while Edmundson is in AHL, depending on camp.

Why protect Steen and Berglund? Just a total waste. You can leave them unprotected, they will be UFA a couple weeks after expansion draft. So if one of them is taken, resign as a UFA. If not, then do extension. Blues will likely protect Petro, Parayko, JBo; Allen; Tarasenko, Schwartz, Fabbri, Lehtera, Statsny, whichever we resign of Backes/Brouwer, and a prospect like Barbarshev. No reason to waste protection on Shatty, Steen, Berglund, or Elliott, given their contract situations.

Blues are lucky enough to have a lot of contracts expiring summer of 2017. Time to take advantage of that by waiting to extend them until after expansion draft.

- Antilles

I could see the Blues not protecting JBo based on performance versus cost. It all depends on the cap and contracts going forward.

I don't drink. So I won't be drunk.

Maybe I can just get a refillable Cherry Pepsi and fill it up between periods to keep up with the game...

I expect them to go after Petro this game. Benn already pulling dirty stuff and would expect Rousell and others to get involved.

Would send Reaves out early and get some big hits. Get the crowd into it and get the attention of the stars. Hopefully they start trying to screw around with him rather than playing their speed game.

Kinda expect him to fight someone this game. There will come a point they are sick of hearing from him and his antics. I'm sure he has already told them I'm available anytime vs anyone.

In my life, I can think of 3 big injuries that changed playoff series (off the top of my head) - Backes, Pronger and Fuhr.

Antilles the drinking game hasn't started yet brother.

Edmundson is really good. He is still a rookie.

JayBo is on the downward spiral of age and career while Edmundson is tracking upwards and it is a cap league.

JayBo plays mostly a good solid game, but there is just something lacking in his game. The league is quickly evolving and so is the speed while he is slowing down just a bit. He rarely takes the body and backs up. But now you are starting to see more and more guys squeak by him, beat on the boards in the corner.

The guy obviously knows how to play and make offensive plays and yet there is the lightest delay between decision and execution not as pronounced as say Brewer but it is there. I swear when he was on Florida I remember him having a rocket of a shot. But now I think I must be misremembering him for some other guy.

Time will tell the tale.

They have been going after Petro since the first shift. Benn has been doing this the entire time. He just got caught. He also in the first game went after Tarasenko after the whistle. I really do not understand how he figures that's intimidation.

Backes was invisible that entire series (I believe he already had a fractured foot) so I don't really agree with that one, but Pronger, MacInnis and Fuhr for sure. Fuhr definitely take the cake. That injury shows why you always need a good backup goalie.
- cuethenoise

I believe anlot of players were injured that year but the removal of yet another one who was a dominatng physical force in those nearly two games crushed the Blues and made it easier to cover one line.

They do a lot of good things and really care about taking care of the community. I think this affects some of their community with Upshall being from there.

lol. I don't disagree about JBo's age starting to show. But we have no replacement for him, and would desperately need one if he left. Every other option we have on the left side would be a massive downgrade. JBo's cap number isn't important if we would have to spend it on someone to take his minutes regardless. It's not like we are overspending for a first pairing defenseman, or have a cheaper younger option like we do in the Shatty/Parayko situation.

As for Edmundson... is there anything we can say about him that wasn't said about Lindbohm around this time last year? Good young bottom pairing defensemen aren't critical to a teams success. A subpar #2 defenseman is far more important to keep than a good #5.

MacInnis got hurt in the first round when the series was tied 1-1. They only had finished second in the division and 5th in the conference that season that season. (shoulder injury)

Compare that to the Pronger knee injury when the Blues finished 4th but were only 1 point behind 2nd. An injury that happened in a game in the second round that could have evened the series with the NHL red wings.

Compare it to 2014 where the Blues were up 2-0 when Backes got hurt, were only 5 points of the president trophy.
