To all those who constantly repeat we will not be a contender the next 2 years we get it. Advice is move on & start thinking & staying in the present only. Playoffs r the goal period.

Tbh being realistic is difficult for many ppl here whilst others r pragmatic.

I look at last season as both a write off due to key & long injuries & a season of transition playing our kids. Only 1 year removed from a 101 pt playoff team & not surprising father time caught up to us after a long & succesful playoff runs & high quality regular seasons. 2 years into a new regime is not very long & i see signs of the old mausoleum crowd resurfacing in the newer gens.

As VANTEL stated wait til after the draft & trades & UFA's r done before jumping the gun. What year 3 should indicate to us all IMO is how the kids progressed after last year & an offseason of training & showing real improvement on a more consistent basis. Youth always face consistency issues & the cream rises to the top. The vets & UFA's should be the backbone going forward & the mentoring they provide will be highly important. Expecting more reasonable injuries other than what we faced makes a world of difference eg CBJ was set back 2 seasons ago & never fully recovered. I expect us to bounce back better.

Now does that mean we r a playoff bubble team next season? I'd say yes.
Will we be a bottom feeder as in like last year? No

Summary: year 3 under TL/JB will be interesting enough but the honeymoon is over & if things go south early i expect to see trades by xmas & coaching changes. Travis Green could be promoted if that happens.

I will quote JB....

We were in a playoff position at the allstar break then Sutter/Edler both went down.
Thats 2 awfully tough losses to take on a team without depth to overcome.
The cup runs & MG not restocking the cupboard hurt as greatly.
That said i admit to enjoying those runs & its time to turn the page.

The next two seasons while the Sedins are here or not for another five years. Huge cliff just ahead unless they pull a rabbit outta their ass and get another #1 center to replace Hank.

Making the playoffs are one thing and being a contender is another. Yes it is possible this team makes the playoffs in the next 2 years and goes on a Cinderella run, but I really doubt they will be contenders within that time frame.

Even if this team lands Stamkos in the offseason, trades for a Hamonic and get an NHL ready draft pick, I still don't think they will be contenders.

Two more years of the Sedins will further insulate the kids they currently have, plus this years crop, to develop, after that, if they don't re-sign (dear God please NO), it's not gonna be pretty.

Unless we can trade those Sedin's into 2 valuable pieces at the TDL in 2 years.
That's my hope at least.

Tkachucks majority of his point totals came from secondary assists this year. Are you more worried about Dubois being able to translate his game to the NHL from the Q, or Tkachuk's inflated stats playing on a powerhouse line on the knights?
- Codes1087

Tkachuk has been a top prospect for awhile. Stayed pretty consistent and we can't afford to miss with this pick... And I think it was Ryan beich on the radio the other day who said his secondary assists are down to 21% from 38% last year

Lets focus on the process & making the playoffs 1st.
Walk before we run & develop who we have & keep on drafting smart.

I think management/ownership wants to make the playoffs next season. what is a little scary is the thought of being in the playoff hunt when the Sedin's''' contract is expiring, teams want to trade for them and ownership veto's because they want playoff revenue...

As the world turns..

Just got this email, pushing next season's tickets and the youth in the lineup- Bo, Sven and JV.

The goal should be win one round

I don't see Linden and Benning sitting on their hands in the next few weeks. I think this is going to be an extremely busy summer

If they are bringing back Hamhuis, I'd expect someone moved from the d corps. and can't see all the same forwards coming back. If they are bringing in a UFA or 2, we will be seeing some changes.

Why would you keep the oldest part of the core?

I like the forwards. Adding the #5 and a good UFA or two can set up a very nice competitive forward group.

Hamhuis at a very good home town discount only with a limited NTC.
Pedan could be dealt as an RFA. Larsen will get a roster spot as prolly the 7 D.
As for UFA's it could mean eg JM JV etc grooming in Utica.
Players like Higgins & Burrows will be sent down if clear waivers.
I cannot see much value for either unless we eat some salary.
Late round picks is the best we can expect.
