annnnnnnnnd that's why I don't read them

I can't seem to keep track of the Islanders blogger on HB. This is the first time I remember seeing this Noel person. Is he new?

Anyway, point is - I think you guys need a new blogger, this one can't write for squat.

No worries. It was responding to the blog which clearly said it was a late hit and should have been penalized for interference
- uf1910

Well I think it should been an interference penalty but that's not why we lost the game. Having your two worst defensive fwds out for that draw is why we lost that game. They played exactly as I expected them too in that situation. Okposo and Tavares just stood and watched as that goal went in to tie it up. Before it went to ot I knew it was over.

C'mon now, he's a Rags fan, gotta make allowances.

Having said that, I am still trying to dissect this sentence in the blog: "...His decision of putting his top line out there with under a minute was a first guess...." I'm thinking the word "guess" was inserted by autocorrect and not the word intended by Noel? At least that would be my first guess.

Clean hit. Not the reason they lost. Move on to game 4

As good as JT has been offensively, he cannot play D to save his life. KO has no even been good offensively.

agree. you put your possession PK guys on. Not Tavares and Okposo hoping they can get empty net goal. We didn't need a empty net goal, we need a clear from our zone.

It was stupid putting them both out there, but I can maybe understand his thinking with JT being the best faceoff guy on the team (still disagree with it though), but having KO out there makes no sense.

Boyle should be suspended, but Hickey was not lying on the ice when Boyle scored.
- jmatchett383

Well that kinda brings up an interesting point. Usually when a player is on the ice hurt, a whistle is blown. I was surprised that it wasn't.

I agree they should not have been out there, but JT still needs to work on his D game. Other great offensive players have managed it.

Meh. Idk I've been watching the guy just as much as everyone else since he became an islander and he's literally the last person I put out in that situation. As everyone else has already said it's a done deal time to move on in all probability we have another year with this coach unfortunately.

Clean hit. Maybe a bit late but clean. If you suspend that then you would have to suspend Hickey for laying out Drouin as well (another clean hit).
- Wildschwein

Im sorry but I disagree......first of all, Drouin had the puck when Hickey hit him. Second of all it was shoulder to chest the entire way. If you take that hit out of hockey then its game over. I highly doubt Hickey is gonna lay on the ice in OT when the other team is entering the zone if he's not hurt. I dont think it was a coincidence that Boyle hit the guy that steamrolled one of their best players. Lastly, Hickey did not have the puck when he was hit. It was absolutely interference. Again, the game should never have gone into OT, but I do not think those two hits were the same.

Yeah I agree, he shouldn't have been out there. These 2 full days off between games are terrible, especially after losses

100% agree. The Boyle hit was interference plain and simple. Hickey didn't have the puck and it opened up a lane for Boyle to eventually score the game winner. That's the very definition of interference. Calls get missed that's just hockey. Nelson should have gotten whistled for two penalties that I saw that the refs let go so it is what it is. Officiating as usual was bad for both teams. Hate to keep putting this caption here but that's not why we lost the game just in case some over zealous Tampa fans are in the mood to fight.
The Drouin hit was a clean hit. Drouin had the puck and Hickey made a great defensive play on a dynamic player. Hits couldn't be more different really.

Its funny because I feel the need to put that disclaimer in too, because people love to take things the wrong way on here. Either way it was interesting to me that the refs didnt blow the whistle with hickey lying on the ice.

The positive in all of this is that the isles out played them. The isles are gonna come out friday like Tampa did in game 2. Its a must win.....but i truly believe the isles come at them hard and take game 4.

Yeah not a fan of it myself. Bizarre playoff schedule this year in both rounds. From one extreme to the other.

How was it plain and simple interference? The NHL allows you to hit the guy about a second after he releases the puck which is what Boyle did. If you think that was interference I bet you can go back and watch other hits both teams put on and find many more that happened after the puck was moved.

It was interference.. and it was a lot worse than some of the calls they are making on Casey C... but no Islander fan is blaming that non call in OT on this loss. In OT they don't make a lot of calls... We should have won the game in Regulation.

Boyle was already committed to the hit and followed through within the parameters of 0.6 seconds that the league has apparently considered a legal time frame for contact. Apparently Letang's hit was 0.63 seconds, and he took a sharp change in angle to finish contact, Boyle was constant through.

I figured many people (Tampa fans) would complain for the Drouin hit because he did get his face smacked and was leaking, but Hickey came through the body and Drouin while making a move lowered his face/head for incidental contact.

I have enjoyed the Islanders push this playoff, I didnt think they would win in the first round but your team is very scrappy and I like the intensity

Good breakdown of the hits here too: http://www.tsn.ca/talent/...legal-bodychecks-1.483549
