Keith Tkachuk was once the highest paid player while Jagr was undeniably the best once upon a time. Whatever teams choose to pay Stamkos is to their discretion. I don't think Kake is worth his price tag. He's an all steak but no sisle type of player to me. Jake to me needs the goal scoring to add to everything else he's pretty awesome at.
- SuperSchennBros

That wasn't during the salary cap era. And today, in the cap era, if a Tkachuk player (an amazing player) made the most, that would probably be poor cap management. Agree to disagree on Jake. I know you value goal scoring higher than anything else, and the well is dry for me on this topic.

Cheered is correct.

Look at my post about MDZ. Read it, and then pat me on the back and say you learned something. Maybe ask me a simple follow up so I know you paid attention.

Or else I will feel worthless.

No, I'm just not drinking the koolaid. Jake is a Flyer, so naturally you defend him.

I only saw him at the top prospects game (and frankly I wasn't paying attention to him), but a lot of people seem to be raving about him as a hidden gem. Maybe he even finds his way into the late first or very early second. I said this the other day: I think this could be one of those drafts where the top d men aren't the top d men in a handful of years. There's a lot of late first/second guys that could be absolute steals, and I'm a bit down on a few of the top guys personally.

Taylor Raddysh is more of the 2nd round target I'd like to see them land

Hey, you posted the Johansen link not me haha! But Raddysh is a good name. Maybe Dahlen if he falls, Mascherin. I wouldn't mind if they select only forwards bearing someone falling.

And then Matthew Phillips in the 3rd so people lose their (frank)ing minds.

When he was on the ice (this is score and zone adjusted fyi), his CF% was 50.9. When he was off the ice, the team had a CF% of 47.2. He was neck and neck with Medvedev (behind Gudas) for second best CF% relative to his team, among the d corps . He had the highest d zone start % behind Schultz. He faced the toughest competition on the team behind Schultz...I believe when they were both healthy, he saw the toughest. He also had an absurdly low PDO...which sums up save percentage and shot % on-ice to measure degree of luck. That's why his raw numbers were a bit undewhelming. He was also the best shot suppression d man on the PK.

He just did yeoman's work. He was used like a #1 and came out clean doing it...ideally he's not, but if he can do that in those minutes, if he can be a #2/3 or something, he could be a nice long term piece. Many of those minutes were with Gudas, which definitely helps inflate your advanced stats, but he did well without him relative to his team too. And when they were apart, MDZ was still facing top competition and Gudas wasn't. So I don't think that argument is too too valid.

1. what exactly is/how do you know/how do you find score/zone adjusted stats
2. what is this PDO?

1. I went to Corsica.hockey and they calculate it for you under a tab among many other things. It's just a formula adjusted %...when a team is up by x number possession numbers on average decrease by y percent. Or down by whatever, it increases. So it's adjusted for that. And a zone start in say the offensive zone is z% more likely to yield a Corsi event for your team. That's factored in. Just to be fair and adjust for differing contexts.

2. It's not the best stat, but it's a goalie's 5v5 save% when you're on the ice added to your team's shooting % on ice. 1000 is considered about average. It's just a quick way to check how lucky a player is...if they have a very high save % and shooting %, maybe they're getting rather lucky. If their possession stats are great, but their save % and shooting % are low, maybe they're due for positive regression. It's not the best stat because it doesn't explain much regarding "why," but it's easy.

That + your team's on ice shooting % at evens. So 93.0 + 10 = 103

PDO was quite honestly the least important part of my post haha

Really like Raddysh but doubt he falls. I'm hoping Gregor or Dube are available at 48. They are both really skilled, play hard and fill a position of need(offense from LW and C).

I'm wondering what people's thoughts on Hagg are. With Sanheim, Myers and Wilcox looking at being full-time pros next year, does Hagg slip down the depth chart? If so, how far?

He had a great camp with the flyers last year, but didn't hear much after that. I'll admit that I didn't get to watch any Phantoms games, so I'm not sure how he was utilized, but he seems to have stagnated. Really, how much has he improved over the past 2 years? Honest question....
