I have to add that all this "decline" coincides with a league wide decline in scoring. That has to be taken in to account. - MBFlyerfan
Possession stats don't. But league-wide scoring I took into account when I said that. His points have declined even adjusting for a league-wide decline. The last two seasons combined he places #21 in points per game. He's also #20 in shots taken. In ES points per 60, he is #48.
In the 3 seasons before his injury....he was #2 in p/pg. He had 134 goals to Ovi's 2nd place 102. He was #5 in shots taken. His ES p/60? #3 in the NHL. Even today he is an elite player and one of the best goal scorers in the league, but he is not one of the top 5 or even 10 players in the league...in terms of overall offense or 200 ft game. But he will be paid like he is. And maybe a team like Toronto can afford that difference, because he's still awesome, but the Flyers should not bark up that tree. I'm confident they won't though. And I'm just as confident he wouldn't sign here even if we matched. |

I did not back read, so I apologize if this was discussed, but what do you guys make of this "rumor" to target Shatty via trade and Loui via FA? |

I don't think it's very likely that some reporter in Edmonton has the goods on what the Flyers plan is. Very likely that the Flyers themselves are involved in internal meetings, charting an off season plan.

I'll never ever get tired of watching that Keith Primeau OT goal. One of the most satisfying moments in my 36 years of Flyer fandom.
Wouldn't want Louie Eriksson for more than $4.5/3 years, and he's obviously getting a much better deal than that from someone. Flyers need more size and someone who fits the timeline. When Provorov and Sanheim are in full swing, dude will be 33.
Any interest in Radulov (I know he's a RW) on a Medvedev type deal? Could be a stopgap and add 20-25 goals. On the other hand, Hakstol might kick his butt to the curb if the attitude is bad. Not advocating for it, just poking it with a stick. - ChoclitLeClair

Flyers reportedly have interest in Kevin Shattenkirk (via trade) and Loui Ericsson as a FA. I'm not sold on acquiring either.

So I've been thinking about this one all day thinking of flyer player(s) that would make sense of in a shatty deal. I think there could be a fit here. The Blues are righty heavy with pietro and parayko and their probably concerned with a potential decline in bowmeesters game. Enter mdz. Reasons why the blues would like him are he is LH, he is a couple years younger than shatty, and he won't cost near as much money to resign. He's a piece that could fit nicely in that d core. Obviously the flyers would be sending more, possibly a piece like laughton or a 2nd rounder.
The trade would look a lot like the Eric Johnson/shattenkirk deal. Blues would be repeating history for the most part.
I'm not sure how I feel about it but I see a potential deal there

St. Louis would be looking for offense. I don't think that gets it done. Flyers would have to include Schenn or Simmonds as the forward. |

A big no thanks then. I don't see what forward we could afford to give up of any substance that would make sense |

What if they asked/wanted our 1st this year ? In any circumstance/deal, would you consider it? I personally wouldn't but I'm curious to hear others' thoughts.you say no thanks to Schenn or Simmer so what if they countered with our 1st +? Yes it would be nice to add cheap young forward to prospect pool, but with Shatty added I think a d prospect becomes more expendable to acquire winger(s) via trade |

I wouldn't for our 1st. I think there's real potential the flyers could lose MDZ for nothing if they don't find a trade this summer. That wouldn't be the end of the world but it wouldn't be ideal losing that caliber of player for nothing considering all the other holes on the roster.
With Ghost, Provorov, Morin, and to an extent Manning (and you have to consider him the coach loves him) being all lefties (forget Schultz/Streit even) I don't see a fit for MDZ after this year to stay on a long term extension. It may be best to find a hockey trade this summer.

the Blues are closer to a cup so I can't see them dealing one of their main dmen for a pick |

What is it going to cost to re-sign Brayden Schenn? Somewhere in the neighborhood of 5M? How about when Gostisbehere puts up 15-20 goals, and 40 assists next season, and is one of the top offensive D men in the league, and is do for a new contract? 6M? They might need to re-sign one of the goaltenders. They're also going to have some expiring contracts, possible trades, buyouts, etc. Lots to think about in that perfect storm. - MJL
Schenn at 5m? No thanks. |
