How did Hutton look out there?
- Retinalz

Wasn't able to watch and haven't been able to find much info yet.

Tanev did get an assist though.

Only highlight I could find is the McDavid goal.

I hated watching Shanny, Chevy and Davidson standing there like they "earned" something. Your teams stunk. Still jealous though.

I agree, he did score 6 two years ago so 8 isn't a huge reach. I hope they pair him and Hutton together and find another guy to pair with Edler.

Torrey Krug underwent shoulder surgery and will miss 6 months. I wonder how that will affect his RFA status this summer. He did have an off year.

Why does BB wear his tie like that? Why wear it at all?

I assume it is all about some image he wants to project, but I wonder if he is projecting the same image he thinks he is projecting? a character that has become a caricature.

Did someone mention Tanev? Hate to waste this long-winded post to the last thread after Carol put the new one up.

I will have to respectfully disagree. I think Hamhuis is a 2nd pairing, Edler a 2nd pairing, Tanev 2nd pairing, Ben Hutton (currently) is a bottom pairing, and nothing stands out for me to believe that Tryamkin is anything more than a bottom pairing (currently). We all know where Sbisa stands.

So if I had to rank our D, I would have to say:

Vacant - Vacant
Edler - Tanev - Hamhuis (most likely gone)
Bartkowski (gone) - Biega - Sbisa - Hutton - Tryamkin - Pedan

- Codes1087

Not likely to get two top pairing guys any time soon. But I do think Edler settles down and is more effective as a second pairing guy. I think the really big holes are your top left side and 2nd right side.

Vacant - Tanev
Edler - Vacant
Hutton - Tryamkin

Sbisa
Larssen
Pedan
Biega
Stecher

Unfortunately at Sbisa's cap hit he's not sitting out as your number 7 and probably can't be moved unless he's included in a package. That and the lack of a true number 1 guy bumps Edler back up to the first pairing. Having Sbisa in your top 4 is more detrimental than having Tanev in your top pairing.

The Canucks are probably going to have to trade for someone to fill that #2 RHD spot. If they get a guy who can shoot the puck and generate 40 points there, that's likely the single biggest improvement they could make to the team.

Tryamkin isn't quite ready yet but needs the playing time. Ideally he should be getting top pairing minutes in Utica to accelerate his development but apparently that's not going to happen with his KHL>AHL clause. I think they should really be making a push to convince him to start the year there and come back up when injuries allow it.

Larssen will probably get an extended look at training camp and exhibition season to see if he can fill that #4 spot, but I'd say he's a long shot right now.

Pedan also looks like he's not ready yet. Not sure if his contract allows him to go back down without clearing waivers so he may end up being traded.

Beiga is really only good enough for emergency callups so if he clears waivers at the start of the year then he should be in Utica.

I'd expect Stecher to play in Utica next season as well for his first year of pro.

If they want to get better and be competitive, there's really no room for Hamhuis. Time to move on, sorry.

Weber and Bartkowski should be loaded into the world's largest t-shirt cannons and launched as far away as possible.

I've never run a draft simulator. It's like playing a home lottery......it only counts when it's for real.

a good post.

Pedan, at times, played top pairing in Utica last season. He will have to clear waivers to be sent down. I am guessing Larssen would have to clear too, and he would have likely stayed in the KHL rather than go to Utica.

Our defense needs an overhaul and yet we seem so stuck with what we have, with so little flexibility - the players we may want to send down aren't waiver exempt and those that are exempt like Hutton, we want to keep up and Tryamkin has an out in his contract..

I think Larssen is a righty, so that might help his cause.

If Hamhuis is brought back, then I would guess we would end up losing some grit/physical play with either Pedan or Sbisa moved out.

and no d depth in Utica. JB has lots of work to do.

do you have any ufa or trade targets to help our d? (I think I noticed JB lurking )

Stuck with what we have? Larson, pedan, Tree, stercher. All new to the team. Out. Bart, Weber and Hamhuis. That's a fair bit of turnover

JB should refuse to recognize the lottery results and just pick first anyway. Muscle his way onto stage. Shanahan is the only one you have to worry about. He's feisty.

Best case scenario is he is able to translate his abilities to the NHL like Matt Read, Erik Condra or Matt Calvert but I think it is more likely he ends up as a AHL/NHL tweener. Very few college FA make an impact in the NHL.
- belcherbd

I think he is more gallagher/marchand/burrows kinda player than tweener personally. I see him as a guy who goes all out and plays kinda any where in the line up. HOpefully its canuck fans who get to find out for themselves.

Or sooner.
Break that lease and move the team to the backyard.
Give fans a chance to see some prospects and make call ups so much easier.
What is the AHL western division like? I suppose that would be the major stumbling block.

Espeically the fans who dont want to drop a couple hundred to go watch a hockey game

Don't be so sure about that. Tickets will be priced on what the market will bare. If aquaman feels that he could get $40 to $50 a seat then that's what he will charge.

Look at the cost of Whitecaps matches. I think it's way over-priced for what you are getting. But the market will pay the maximum price it can afford.

maybe not the best word, and I do appreciate the turnover, but with Pedan, it is either play him, sit him in the press box, move him or waivers. I'd guess someone would claim him off waivers.

We have a d corps with question marks in Pedan, Larssen, and to some extent Tryamkin with limited flexibility with what we can do with them.

I think they tried to move FC last season, without any takers, before waiving him...

JB has to make some moves, can't be going in with this d corps.
