Whether he was good or bad his boss made sure to let everyone know that he had no job security.

I don't think it's an inferior thing. It's more like imposing made up rules which limits one from selecting from a better pool. Sure a québécois may be the best available, but how about the times it is not? It's more of a disservice to the paying fans to willingly get the third best because we have two TV networks that need sound clips without translations.

Burke had his weird GM rules that immediately hurt the team from potentially getting better. Sorry he's real good and wants to come here but is asking for 6 years and a ntc and I just don't believe in those. C'mon.

I don't really see it that way. The building is full, or at least the tickets are all sold. No one but Berkshire complained when the Habs put up back to back 100 + point seasons. The cluster(frank) of a season has brought out the vultures. Most teams have very similar systems and this notion that coaches from the Q are not on par with unknown coaches from other leagues is simply absurd to me.

The Burke effect was defended staunchly by most (like the self defined trade freeze) as enticement for UFA's.

Well, we both know they'll never hired a coach that can't speak French (poor Cunny)

And I'm cool with that.

It comes with the territory of being a Habs fan.

Anyway...coaches won't matter much as long as the team will be poopty

Ya that notion is absurd, but if Babcock, Quennville and Suter are available would you skip over in favour for the coach of acadie-bathurst because otherwise he may never get a chance?

Some will defend who is in power no matter what.

The building being full should never be the gauge of deciding if things are okay or not.

A guy like Boudreau still being high on teams lists for NHL coaching jobs, despite showing little success with packed rosters, tells me there isn't much that is available out there that really trumps what the Habs would be "limited" to look at for a new coach

Then the team who hires him will deal with his short comings. It's not like Montreal is searching anyways.

Suter talks like my drunk uncle right before he passes out.

Those guys are top coaches and should give the organization cause to consider them. But I don't think that teams are often a coach away from being contenders.

I totally agree with your last point but we both know that the bottom line trumps all.

Yup. What urks me is that there is an assumption that the French coach is somehow inferior to others. There is only 1 pipeline, at least for now, for capable francophone coaches to the NHL.

I felt bad for Cunneyworth but since leaving the habs, he hasn't landed another NHL job. Maybe he's just not that good of a coach.....

- Cyberhabs

No, what kinda irks me is the pool is smaller.

What evs, like I said it comes with the territory..

Though the caps are on their 3rd coach since he was let go and they're still doing the same poop. So piling it on him while it may be an issue with their core.

Look at where all the teams they're currently coaching were when they were hired.

Yes nutters, coaches get hired after the previous season was poopty.

Last thing before I go, all those top coaches got a break and the opportunity to coach in the NHL. At one time or another, they were the unproven and unknown coach who worked their way up.

Coaching is overrated beyond belief.

Just like the GM job is overrated.

Somehow, hiring a 26 yrs Old educated, billiant Man is a mistake, while hiring a former nhler like Bergevin is celebrated.
Newsflash: Bergevin is an idiot.

Hockey is runned by dinosaurs acting like frat boys.

The point remains that you don't usually change the coach if things are going well.
