Let's be clear. The Letang suspension is completely justified. The problem here is that the DOPS is completely inconsistent. You saw it in the Caps/Flyers series and you're seeing it again in this series.

The Wilson/Sheary may be worse than the Orpik hit. Knee-on-knee hits have ended careers.

The Dallas/MIN series was also a complete sh** show. The league needs to get things in order here and start cleaning things up.

If I am Letang I make a statement and in that statement I put Trotz on blast..I envision it something like..." I am not going to criticize and make accusations against the league officials, like Barry Trotz did, when they handed Brooks Opik a 3 game suspension for deliberately targeting a guys chin way after he moves the puck with no body contact at all. They gave me a 1 game suspension for my late body to body hit that had head impact as well but was not primary point of impact, I will serve this penalty and move on."

They also alter careers Sidney Crosby Pierre Beregeron ect. they do need to be consistent, and I don't think if a guy gets injured should be the barometer for a suspension or not. Intent and the aggressiveness of the action should speak for itself, injury should only lengthen the suspension. You want to get this stuff out of the game. 2 things...1 let Toronto make a call during games down to ice to officials and give match penalties on hits like that, not trips,hooks but intent to injures. and 2 suspend for as long as the guy who gets injured, if it outlasts initial suspension. so if Maatta misses 6 games and suspension is 3 he sits 3 more....

I'm really getting annoyed at my fellow Pens fans who are somehow trying to fight this. It was a very bad hit and deserved a suspension. Letang got away with a terrible slash against the Rangers, just as Nash got away with a similar hit on Daley, just as Wilson got away with one Sheary.

The DOPS is to blame for all of this as is the NHL for not putting pressure to on the refs to start tightening things up.

Trotz won't care. He did crap like that with the Flyers, sending tapes to the NHL. He's not gonna stop now.

Very shocked Letang got suspended. Pens seem to always get away with that type of thing. however I did think he got off pretty easy. IMO even though Orpiks hit was later, I think Letangs was more violent and he deserved 2-3 games not just one

Bob Hartley is the next head coach of the Anahiem Ducks,and something tells me he wanted out of Calgary,once Boudreau was fired. This is the same kind of situation,as when Bob Hartley took the Avalanche all the way to the promised land. Ducks and Hartley are the perfect match.
