And now, for something completely different;

This just in..................Cubs are really good

And my boys down on the South Side are not doing so poorly, either. It would be nice to see both teams involved in meaningful September games, for a change!

Crawford+ prospect/picks for Freddy Anderson + Sami Vatanen/Cam Fowler
- EnzoD

Wonder who the ducks want to keep out of those 3: Fowler, Vatanen, Lindholm.
I can't see Lindholm or Fowler going much of anywhere. They also have Shea Theodore who might get a roster spot next season. Vatanen with Hjalmarsson... That is an interesting pair.

If you get banned for saying that—and only that—you let me know. I'll have it overturned immediately.

Otherwise, try to argue against what people actually say. Not what fits the "retort" you want to blast them with.

Where in my post did I say anything was "proven as fact"
except that logically it follows that Bowman lost leverage as the summer wore on and everyone and their brother knew he had to cut salary (as it did the previous summer)? That's just common sense, dude.

- John Jaeckel

You don't say it as "fact", so I apologize for lumping you in there.

But there are many that act as if TOR went to Stan and offered him two 1st round picks for Sharp and he said "no" - holding out hope for more.

Our GM is in the most difficult spot of any - being they've won 3 championships in 6yrs.
1) Because no GM is going to want to "help" them (bury contracts like Bickell for nothing...the way some have with others)
2)resigning younger players that just won a Cup and want to cash in. Other teams want to pick those players with the pedigree to bring to their locker room

Taking into consideration (Sharp, for instance), I'm sure Stan did try to get the best deal while accommodating where Sharp wanted to go. I'm sure Sharp wanted to go to a place financially beneficial (no state tax in DAL) with a chance to win as he gets up in age. He (Sharp) easily could have refused several trades INCLUDING vetoing all trades. And then what?

Q is a great coach. He now needs to adjust to a team continuing to lose experienced war savy vets to kids who have to be taught. There will be plenty of mistakes made in the next few years by a lot of these young players as they learn the system. Can't just press box them or send them packing because they don't fit in right away. Obviously there was some questionable roster decisions made as the season wore on. Had Qs ego and fingerprints all over it. Chalk that up to an all in run for the cup. Fact is, they swung and missed. Gave up a lot. It's retool time which will be another step (or two) back with hopefully gradual steps forward over the next few years. Q, more than anyone else needs to accept that, and alter his approach. Losing Oduya and Sharp on the ice and in the room proved vital this year. Losing Crawford, Shaw or Seabrook (which I doubt) will be just as tough. Experience and trust in the man next to you in the room is priceless. I'm confident Stan will work hard and learn from his mistakes this past summer. Hopefully Q can adjust and do the same.

If Edmonton starts to get some reinforcements on D, they could start to really put it together.

Edmonton is a (frank)in mess. They wont see the playoffs for atbleast 5 years.

Edmontons mess plus the Greatness of the West is a disaster for the the Oil.

Don't they have the opposite side problem that the Hawks had all season - too many forwards on one side (left) and not enough in the other (right). And isn't Cagguila a left wing? Trying to figure out why Edmonton?

I hope you're right, but I think they are a playoff team in 17/18, or a bubble team at least. They don't deserve it bc of the rigged draft lottery (Edmontom 4 times and now Toronto...hmmmmm).

They need A LOT of help on defense and I think their goaltending is still suspect.

Garrison with a big blast from the point and the Bolts are up 3-1 against New York. I wouldn't be surprised if TB went back to the final.

I was one of those. My point was a lot of those pining for Daley now wanted him gone. He was under performing and didn't seem to fit. Why? I have no idea but he requested a trade and at that point was a lost cause. I always thought he was brought in to be the 4D with Hammer.
- Blackwater13

Daley requested a trade when Q had him down to 10:00 minutes a game. After being dumped he couldn't speak more highly of the team, the city and fans.

For those highlighting Q and StanBowPops&McD's accomplishments (cups) there are near as many, and that number is increasing, that winning with overwhelming talent isn't a true indicator of managerial skill. Unless of course YOU acquired that talent.

Admitting redundancy here but I liked Daley the day they acquired him, when he was here and will tomorrow as a #4 Dman at 3 mil per. He would have done for Q what no other #5 or #6 Dman did in the playoffs, eat minutes that the top 3 wouldn't have had to making them look at times punch drunk.

Playoff Minutes:

Keith 31:07
Seabs 27:09
Hammer 24:10
TVR 23:53
Gus 11:02
Sved 8:02

Assuming Daley ate 20:00 per game and that Gus/Sved took 10:00 at the #6 spot that's 10:00 per game that you can shave off the top 3's ice time any way you choose to slice it. Think it would have made a difference for Keith, Seabs, Hammer to skate 2-3 minutes less per game?

I'm fine with moving Daley or anyone else, just make the team better doing so. Q didn't want Daley in his area code, fine make it work. You had Rundblad and Gus on the ice in Game 7. You had the group you wanted.

You wanted Mash dressed fine, make it work.

Q didn't get stupid all of a sudden but IMO he failed in these playoffs and during the regular season with a team that goes further into cap hell as each season goes by.

Anybody who thinks Marcus Kruger is not a 3 million dollar player is wrong.

Anybody who thinks he doesn't move extremely well and have a terrific short term burst, great vision and set up skills needs to look again.

I won't say I am the definitive expert on every one of their prospects from what I watched for my junior player mock draft, but again, find it laughable on how any Blackhawk fan who has seen Danault in these limited viewing on TV and the UC to already have a clear evaluation and comparison between Kruger and Danault.

Take a swipe at Kruger if you want, but don't argue beyond your level of evaluation or link any past comments about how Danault might be a future replacement for him, b/c it at this juncture is not a playing field you can stand on without holes, slopes and bare spots.

So a fan should run his thoughts past you before he posts an uneducated opinion? Or since your expertise is so above most every poster at HB are you in the wrong space wasting your time with mere novices while giving them the luxury of your schooling of them?

This is becoming one of those things . . .

Whispers coming from around the team that they "could have used Daley in the playoffs but Q made up his mind about him after one practice."

Ouch.

- John Jaeckel

A fan would hope that Q is evaluated like anyone else. His out of the box, inside metrics, lineup choices did not work this season or playoffs.

The crowd, and I'm not talking about message board people, that thinks Q won with overwhelming talent got fuel for the fire this year and will each year as the margin for error (less talent) gets slimmer each passing year.

I'm a Q guy but not unconditionally.

Agree with what you've shared in the last two posts.

This is a huge off season for the Hawks. Fumble it, and they could be watching the playoffs on TV next season.

Winnipeg fell back this year, but they have a good reasonably young team with a rising goalie - if they put it together, who from the Central do they replace in the tournament?

There's always the possibly that Edmonton - another high pick, flexibly to solve some defensive problems thru trades, McDavid for a full year - figures it out, and Calgary made the play-offs two years ago - perhaps another Central team drops out.

Can't stand still in the West and hope to qualify for post-season.

I am a believer, and to use a golf analogy, that there are times you save shots and times that you make shots. In other words don't make things worse by trying to hit the green from behind a tree and cause yourself more strokes when you hit it in a hazard.

Same in hockey when you face 4 guys lined up at the blueline. Get the thing in and don't turn it over, dump it. The math says no, a resounding no, for one team over one year. Great read on that account.

Advantages to possession vs dump and chase
