I don't understand all the negativity surrounding this team .They lost a very tough and entertaining series by inches to a very good team . A little puck luck (two posts twice ) could have been still playing . Injuries also look like they played a major roll , so I understand the rest may help argument . Crow being a blocker 1st goalie IMO may suffer a bit with the new goalie rules for equipment (slimed down ) as may others . So maybe if they get a knock your socks off offer (Toronto ) maybe you move him well his value is sky high . But really other then moving Bickell out ,and before I get shot for saying it is possible .Bob Mackenzie of the hockey news who I believe knows his stuff said there were deals on the Table for Bickel at the TD . So move Bickel and prospect and or pick ,Sign Shaw maybe add Soupy if that has any legs get lot of rest and come back strong .With or with our Crow ,, GO HAWKS !!

To me, seems the Hawks overreacted on Kane by trying to get too far in front of it--when it was squarely in the legal realm (only under investigation at the time). It was beyond awkward and blew up in their faces IMO.

With Ross, they seemed to try to keep their distance, claiming to know nothing until around the point charges were being filed. The Hawks handling of Ross seemed a reaction (perhaps a bit frozen?) to their previous aggressive response to Kane's. Both mishandled, but hardly worth dropping the team as a fan IMO.

Based on the timing and statements made since I really think that Kane's lawyer had told the FO the DNA results of the rape kit. That is what made them comfortable enough to dig in and stand by Kane. I think they probably thought the results would be public by the time of the press conference, and then the conference would have gone along the lines of "in light of the DNA evidence we are confident that the legal system will reach the right result. Mr. Kane has not been charged or even arrested. The DNA results confirm what he has told us and support his assertion he has done nothing wrong, so we are standing by him until something changes in the legal case."

But then the results weren't public yet, and Kane's lawyer reminds them they can't talk about it, and now their whole plan is out the window and they're suddenly stuck with this terrible press conference. And that's probably why it started late, and why McDonough looked like he wanted to bite someone's head off - his carefully crafted PR plan was now shot to poop and there was no time to fix it.

I wouldn't be at all shocked if McDonough were somehow responsible for those rape kit results getting leaked to the paper shortly after the press conference.

If it cost Johns, and essentially Oduya bc I'm sure Nill insisted on Daley out of town (with UFA Oduya in his sights), what do you think it would cost the Hawks to move Bickell at full cap hit?? I'd say if it wasn't a complete hack job or worse than the Sharp trade, Stan would've traded Bickell 10 months ago

I think with 1 year left ,it is not as big a deal for a rebuilding team to take on the contract if they get a decent prospect and pick ( Kero Hartmen or McNiel ) maybe a 3rd ..

Buy-out is more probable.

You are required to protect all players with NMC's.

(And going by generalfanager, both players you mentioned have one.)

- Antilles

Which is why you might try to move a guy with an NMC this summer.

I can't take credit, I think it was pdx2ord.

I was the one who used "lineup (frank)ery" to describe Q's management of the roster

- maria_wyeth

Well, you ladies came up with some great phrases. Yes, I loved your "lineup (frank)ery" phrase for sure. And pdx2ord's "evil genius." Both very accurate!

Not a fan of Rozner but he said it pretty well about Nick in his season wrap-up, something to the effect of "Q used Leddy like he was a Maserati driving in the left lane at 40mph."

All I could think of was how appropriate an image.

He's by no means perfect and will probably never be the defensive defenseman that many here clamor for. All I know is he's got some skills/physical gifts few others in the league do and he can carry the puck like very few others end-to-end.

I see a guy that's made great progress since his Chicago days and only 25.
His best days are ahead.

Can only protect one goalie in the expansion draft and CC already has the NMC.

Players with two or less completed NHL seasons are exempt. Meaning they can't go in pot for movement, and dont need to be protected. That protects Panarin and Darling.

- Return of the Roar

It's first & second year pros actually. Darling has previous professional years in AHL, Panarin has previous professional years in KHL.

https://twitter.com/Real_...62432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

I also read, but don't remember where, that players who are about to start their third year have to be protected. Example given was McDavid. Will have finished his second pro year, so will need protection.

He's the #1D of a second round playoff team. On cue, a nice low shot for a tying goal. Bryan Bickell and Rosival over this guy...

Having the subject of an investigation give an impromptu press conference was an ugly mess...not sure what they thought he could actually say. I really believe that fiasco led to a more hands-off public approach with Ross--until he was charged.

I'd HATE to see Crow go, but what if they could trade him for a #4D, buy out Bickell, and sign Zatkoff (unless PIT gets rid of MAF)? Obvious downgrade at G, but you could fix the D, and have $4 million left over to sign Panik and Shaw, and maybe even Panarin.

Unfortunately, I think the front office would wait too long on a deal, and they'd get back a lot less than they should. Hell, I'd add TT to that deal, he does little for me. Move him before the shine wears off his star.

Have to make choices based upon 7/3/1. Seven forwards, three defensemen, one goalie.

Why trade a Vezina level goalie for a fourth defenseman for one year that you cannot protect during expansion?

To me the decisions have already been made:

Toews, Kane, AA, Panarin, Kruger, Panik, Shaw (Hossa - compliance buyout)
Keith, Seabrook, Hammer (all NMC)
Crawford (NMC)

That is the roster this team starts expansion season with. Knowing that every other team will have to start from the same base of eleven players on June 20, 2017.....im betting not many other teams will have a group that solid to rebuild around.

as expected goalie roulette for the stars continue....some poor play in their own zone cost em on the last 2...and 91 gets a bounce off a skate for the 4th goal...

this one aint on the goalies...but stars got real problems to deal with...

Stan held onto Sharp too long just as he held onto Leddy too long, overplayed his hand. So to say "no fault of his own" is absurd. It's VERY probable the entire mess was his fault.

But I get it, some simply refuse to believe Stan is anything other than a genius....he is great and deserves no scrutiny like the boys (Seabrook and Toews) seem to routinely get.

- kwolf68

I'd love to use our compliance buyout on Stan...if it were only possible...Bowman has shown time and again that he's out over his skis. Rainman, Savvy make good points as always. Bowman's summer of suck could have some long lasting effects here.

I would think the Blues will be right there at the end this spring and it'll be the Kings of 14 all of over again. You know when Stan didn't add defensive depth or the extra center he badly needed.

While I think we all want to try to look forward part of the problem is that Rundblad and Bickell are still part of this team and future (giant gulp). Can't Bowman admit that the Runny thing was a sh-t trade - no he resigns him in almost his worst move as GM. And let's not forget Stan targeting a guy who was done last spring in Timonen - another bad move.

And then there's Sharp which is arguably Bowman's worst move to date with this club. Was it arrogance, greed, or McD thinking they'd get more for Sharp at the draft. As JJ has mentioned time and again the dysfunction in the FO for this team has shown its ugly head.

Instead they saw Nill's woodshed. And here's Bickell still on the roster in a deal that I hated from the start. So Sharp for picks/Bickell buyout/no Runny - that's somewhere around 9mil of cap space...that would certainly have allowed you to hang onto Oduya and Johns and then some last summer. Who knows what happens with Saad? But sadly we see how this has turned out and Stan may have very well cost this team another Cup.

Q isn't clean either...when asked about being beaten by the Blues in the post season presser Q said it was being unable to roll 4 lines not the defense that cost them...well a good start would have been Mashinter in the press box and Weise on the ice. Personally I thought Garbutt was ok but Daley wasn't so hot. But you'd certainly have taken him over Gus/Sved/Rosy/Runny in the Blues series.

Now they'll be forced to move a part or parts they don't want to. It could get pretty ugly - thank goodness for Dollar Bill's salary cap.

I haven't seen anything, anywhere suggesting compliance buyouts will be a part of the expansion draft. Have you seen it anywhere other than people on this board?

And this list ignores the other requirement of the expansion draft. 25% of your salary cap must be left exposed. Even if Hossa were bought out, the numbers wouldn't work to protect the players listed. If there is no compliance buyout, Hawks basically have 5-6m of cap hit they can protect outside the NMC's they have to protect.

Man getting the fear the Blues will make it to the finals n us Hawks fans will be thinking we were one goal away just like the year the Canucklheads beats us n made to the finals.
Actually though watching other teams I feel the Hawks are not quick enough especially the back end nor big or tough enough overall. Brouwer n Leddy would have looked good on the Hawks this year
