I think with 1 year left ,it is not as big a deal for a rebuilding team to take on the contract if they get a decent prospect and pick ( Kero Hartmen or McNiel ) maybe a 3rd ..

Korpikoski (2.5 for 1) for Bickell and the rights to Shaw?

I'd rather have Maroon than Korpikoski.

Can't see him going anywhere after the chemistry he had with McDavid and with the type of team Chiarelli wants to build. Any middle ground?

Reinhart for Shaw? I don't think they'd give up a prospect like Reinhart AND take on Bickell's contract.

Stars lose 6-1. Oduya and Johns are each +1.

There are a few problems with that idea.

First, Kane was literally the only Hawk forward who was consistently good throughout the season. You also don't replace the showtime aspect of someone who can show up in big games at the right time. Like his OT winner against the Blues, how many minutes had he played that night before taking a shot with a bum hand and then getting his own rebound on the other side of the net...

Second, Panarin's stock goes down without Kane. Obviously they have to separate them at some point, but maybe it's wise to do it after Panarin has fully adjusted to NHL-style hockey.

Third, he may be a problem off the ice for the organization but he is part of The Core that allegedly separates this team from others. You already dealt Sharp and I'd argue that losing him (and 2-cup Oduya) had more of an affect on the locker room/team morale than I think was anticipated. Trading Kane (or Seabrook for that matter) is another huge cut into that core and who knows what that does to the remaining ones

- maria_wyeth

I get those points but the question is what would best help the cap situation while gaining in players.

Even though Toews did not score henis the best and most important forward on that team. Panarin and AA work well together getting another young stud centerman, a high end pick with good dmen available and probably more while keeping the best goaltender in the league as long as Price is hurt would be a slam dunk.

I mean I hope it does not happen as a Blues fan but talking hockey it would be a smart move.

Inhighly doubt Kane screws up off ice anytime soon anyway, but that would motivate me as a manager to error on the side of caution.

Maroon another really good St. Louis product.

From my highschool, Bishop, Stastny, Butler, Chris Wideman, Yan Stastny and I think I might be forgetting someone.

I don't understand all the negativity surrounding this team .They lost a very tough and entertaining series by inches to a very good team . A little puck luck (two posts twice ) could have been still playing . Injuries also look like they played a major roll , so I understand the rest may help argument . Crow being a blocker 1st goalie IMO may suffer a bit with the new goalie rules for equipment (slimed down ) as may others . So maybe if they get a knock your socks off offer (Toronto ) maybe you move him well his value is sky high . But really other then moving Bickell out ,and before I get shot for saying it is possible .Bob Mackenzie of the hockey news who I believe knows his stuff said there were deals on the Table for Bickel at the TD . So move Bickel and prospect and or pick ,Sign Shaw maybe add Soupy if that has any legs get lot of rest and come back strong .With or with our Crow ,, GO HAWKS !!
- oldduffman

I agree except man Crow was your MVP this year. Kid is amazing. Hawks are still really good. Justbthe damn cap isn't moving enough. Stupid Ft McMurray tar sands.

Question about this years dratf. Doesn't Hawks have two fifth round picks? Their own and Florida's from Pirri trade? I'm asking cause in wiz mock draft there is only one..and is Kempny lock for Hawks or just speculation??

Man getting the fear the Blues will make it to the finals n us Hawks fans will be thinking we were one goal away just like the year the Canucklheads beats us n made to the finals.
Actually though watching other teams I feel the Hawks are not quick enough especially the back end nor big or tough enough overall. Brouwer n Leddy would have looked good on the Hawks this year

I posted after JJ's first seasons end blog and before the STL-DAL series started that I thought after the Blues club the Stars the Hawk front office will think they are close, for better or worse. Kinda like Q saying a big reason they lost was they didn't roll 4 lines.

And my answer will continue to be:

Horrible to mediocre at best 5 on 5
Historically bad (since 2009) shot differentials
Most of its offensive production from one line

All season long.

And Michal Rozsival is officially done. So today, aside from the fact that TVR is probably best slotted playing the right side at #5 but is #4 by default, the defense 5-7 is pick from: Gustafsson, Svedberg, Rundblad, Slow-Pok-ka, 2 tiny rookies from Sweden and a guy named Kempny (who could be very good but has never played on NA (smaller) ice to the best of my knowledge).

They are maybe close-ish but not that close. They need to improve the team to get back into Cup contention, i.e. the top 3-4 teams in the league. They are not there anymore.

As JJ pointed out, the Hawks matched up most evenly with the Blues as compared to all the other potential first-round opponents. I still think Dallas would have run rings around our slow defense.

Having the subject of an investigation give an impromptu press conference was an ugly mess...not sure what they thought he could actually say. I really believe that fiasco led to a more hands-off public approach with Ross--until he was charged.
- grinder10

What was the alternative?

Either having him go to camp without taking the questions - and have the whole camp be about him to the public - or having him not go to camp until the situation sorted itself out?

Whatever did or didn't happen at his house that night, Kane put the team in a terrible position without a good short-term solution.

1) Did Rozsi retire?

2) Is Kempny close to signing?
