Blowing off Stamkos so lightly is folly.
Tantamount to never trying signing a star that rarely hits the market is bad for biz. Doesn't matter if we r a cup contender or not if he would sign.

- Nighthawk

Agreed.
Take a shot.
Not sure why he'd chose to sign here, but what's that saying about not scoring on the shots you don't take...

I hope the bolts sign stamkos so it increases the chances of hedman but i agree with you. My main point is that adding stamkos still doesnt get us near a cup so keep on drafting high and when the parts start to turn us around then add in the filler. There is no quick fix, the leafs tried that for years and it just prolonged the process.
- mauryballstein

R u saying Stamkos who the Leafs will chase is only a quick fix?
As for the Leafs & their past history it does not apply with the Canucks.

I'd make an offer for Stamkos, because he's good, young and a UFA.
I don't think he will sign here though.

I like your point about the expansion factor changing things up and likely causing a lot more trade action around that time.

Ya since our team is not going to be good next year we should really be positioning our selves early so we dont get burnt kinda like we did at the deadline.

Positioning is simple enough already. As for thinking we will get burnt at the TDL that is nonsense & all about supply & demand. Last TDL shows less trades r happening & rarely top picks. Ladd didn't work out did it?

When/how they refused to rebuild for the last 10 years and just started tossing money and picks at the problem instead of addressing the need to start over. Which they started doing over the last 1.5 years, now they have a game plan and are moving forward. So yes it does apply to the canucks because that appears to be the same thing that the leafs did and it got them no where.

I dont get what you are saying at all or maybe you didnt understand my comment. The ladd trade worked out great for the Jets. How is not a win??

My reference was not dealing vrbata or hamhuis and starting to do that early. Like we should start early to unload players we cant protect for expansion..

They couldn't hold on to Johansen or Nash. I don't see Puljujarvi lasting either

Does anyone know what the red flag on Sean Day is? I've been reading scouting reports and don't really see what it is. He looks likea player that if he is there at 33,you take him.

Family issues? Sounds like he will be there when we pick in the 3rd round

We r not the Leafs or the same problems.
We were a Presidents trophy & playoff team most years.
Compare the Leafs & Edm for non-playoff teams.

Benning likes a forward? Did he not say if "the" D man (assuming Chycerun) is not available he's gonna take either Tkachuk or Dubois?

Boys it's gonna happen, were getting one of my boys. Either Tkachuk or Chycerun
Sadly I don't think Chirelli is dumb enough to pass on Chycerun

Unless JB goes off the board, I think we are getting a good player. and maybe if he did go off the board it still might work out okay.

as much as I am looking forward to seeing who is picked, I am looking forward to some of his decisions on Burrows and Higgins. also I am a little surprised he is still talking about Hamhuis and wonder if another dman could be on the move?

I don't think he said that. I was reading today quite the opposite in fact. JB said if there is a #1 D-man you take him... but followed up with "I'm not sure there is a #1 in this draft".

You will get Tkachuk most likely. I bet Chycerun isnt the first D to go as well... and I really get the feeling that they are hoping Dubois is the forward available assuming the top 3 are gone.

You know, I'm probably alone on this but I'd rather not buy guts out and have them count against our cap 2 yrs from now. The canucks need a good draft this yr and at least one more of a top 10 pick to load up the system.
I'd like to resign Hamhuis, 2 yrs 8 mill
And trade Edler

Yeah thats not what I heard at all. I am torn between 2 dmen. If Dubois is there no brainer. I would take brown over Tkachuk. I think Edmonton takes Tkachuk though.

My gut tells me providing the top 3 go as planned that we take Tkachuck if he's there. He's exactly the type of player benning likes. Plus hes nhl ready.

You guys know what I think of Tkachuck and Chycerun. I say we get one or the other. (He clearly thinks high of Tjachuk and Dubois as he mentioned then specifically.) And there is clearly one D he has his eye on. Because he answer wasn't really an in general answer

Tkachuk is ngl ready. Or awful close. Because of his style. He can come in and thrive in the bottom 6 and move his way up. Guys like Dubois or Nylander aren't near as ready

Thats not what Benning is saying. He said after the big 3, the next class needs more time to be NHL ready. He's also named dropped Dubois several times... not saying much about Tkachuk... for what ever thats worth keeping in mind there is some foolery maybe going on.

I agree on not buying out players if you can avoid it. Eating a good chunk of salary sounds like a better option if you can make a trade and get a pick or project back.

I am not against trading Edler either, just need a good return, his ntc could be difficult to deal with.

If trading Edler isn't possible, I guess that leaves moving Sbisa or Pedan, if JB wants to bring Hamhuis back..
