Habs need to trade up to Edmonton's spot so they can get Dubois. He's the steal of the draft IMO even though he is rated high. Wonder what it would take to move up 5 spots?

You need goal scorers. Offer your 9th pick and Beaulieu to the Leafs for JVR

Fine, then go ahead and draft another great third liner

In an attempt to clarify what should be the intentions of Chiarelli and the Oilers... they don't need top tier defensive help in 3-4 years; they needed 3-4 years ago.

They are NOT trading down to 9 to draft a defenceman unless they are getting a strong defenceman in return for the fourth. Guess what; Emelyn sure as (frank) ain't it and neither is Beaulieu.

I would think Beaulieu and a 9th would be a good haul for the oil to move down to 9th.

But you, like myself, are entitled to opinions.

Fair enough.

I don't think the Oilers are looking to select in the first round. If I'm Chia I am looking to sell the 4th for 1 player... not a player and a lesser pick.

It's unlikely that Beaulieu would be the defenceman to push the Oilers over the hump.

Had last year's picks not been squandered on Reinhart, this may very well be a different conversation.

kind of agree with you, that 4th pick is nice for them to have to shop around for immediate help on the blue line. No point drafting a D now and putting in 3-4 years of development

The goal is to draft 2 quality NHLers players per year. They've failed miserably.

So I guess you think that trade is ridiculous. I am not here to troll or poke fun at your team. My dad and a buddy are die hard Hab fans. I was too at one time before I left for the dark side lol. Montreal needs help now not a drafted kid at 9th over all who can help you in three years. You don't have the depth of good quality players you can trade away without creating a hole someplace else.

Your draft pick is one thing of value you can trade for help now. I mentioned JVR because he is a big kid, great contract and will give you goals/assists. Maybe a prospect would have to be included in my proposal but I don't think it is a silly one.

I don't think Montreal fans want to start next year with the same team that just finished this year.

If that draft is as deep as they say it is, if I'm Bergevin, I'm keeping that 9th overall pick and I use it.

...and certainly not trade it for 2 years of JVR

If course not, because we had no Price (and half of our regular roster) when we finished this year.

Still, with incoming contracts from Price and Galchenyuk in the few next years, I agree we need help now if we want to have a chance to contend before we need to start shedding some important players. But I don't think JVR is worth the hole in the D corps Beaulieu would leave, unless you can somehow add a second-pairing D in this trade.

Seriously, a handful of first rounders every year never play in the NHL, or maybe play less than 20 career games. Just go back and look at draft picks from the 90s up til now and realize that the failure rate is extremely high. While we all want stars from every pick the reality is that it doesn't happen that way. I for one would love for McCarron to be a future #2 center, but I would be happy if he were one of the better #3 centers.

Yeah I stopped reading there, who the hell goes from MTL to Toronto..or Toronto to Montreal for that matter... just un-natural for a team you hated (or should have)... so your opinions can't make sense, any of them !

ok so Carey Price was drafted 10 years ago and you go on to name 3 other players.

that's 4 players in 10 years.

look at the pipeline now.

it's a desert!!!

Paccioretty is a name I forgot, its a great pick for the end of the first round, Beaulieu is not that bad and Mccaron will be a decent NHLER and I'm not ready to give up on Juulsen !

No, No it is not better for the "rivalry" (what rivalry??) for toronto to be competitive.

Under no scenario that I envision is it better for anything that is good in this universe for the Toronto team to be competitive in anything at any time. In fact, it's better for the league if they never make the playoffs since other, non-toronto media centric teams , will get a chance in the spotlight.

the idiots in the toronto media would saturate the coverage in the league with toronto bias and promotion even if they claim to be national organizations...

Enjoy the Sedins boys @ $7million per for the next four. Vancouver and idiot President and useless GM will surely get you a top pick soon..
