Its just a money issue i think.. they could front load the contract as much as possible but it would still be hard to get everyone signed in a couple years.. he wont take a hometown discount.

This. Most of our (hopefully) best players are still young and on ELC contracts.
It won't be til around the end of any Stamkos contract that we might have any cap crunch and that gives management lots of time to figure things out. Not signing Stamkos now because we might have a possible cap crunch in 6-7 years is just silly. Who really knows what will happen in the intervening years? Players of his calibre do not reach free agency often. |
