I know what the 500k is for, but it is not going to stop a deal like that. The coyotes saved a lot more than 500k in that deal. And the "condition" is that the coyotes dont have a 4th rounder currently. If they get one it is for a 4th.
- YuenglingJagr

I know.

that's what I mentioned.

I didn't say it would stop it but you can't say it didn't help it either.

You asked if I thought the 500k was the kicker. It was a piece to help facilitate a deal.

If Donald Trump appeared at some fundraiser wearing a shining mail coat, brandishing a Viking long sword and riding a mighty war steed and asked to be named Lord of the United States, god damn I'd vote for him.

Since that won't happen, I'll just keep playing Age of Conan and read The Last Kingdom novels.

Soo...they should have included $1M and made it a 2nd rounder??? It seemed like the pick and cap space were just a little bit to spice things up.

Is it wrong that I am curious for Trump to win just to see what happens?

Funniest part of that video was when she introduced him as the next President of the United States. The fall was just icing.

All he does is have to beat out a reality tv person, and then a 70 year old felon. Seems pretty feasible.

But nothing will happen. He's on this, "Make America Great Again" kick by not being a politician.

Once he gets into office and realizes that we have things called checks and balances, which is run by politicians, he'll either get nothing done or cave and do things the politician's way.

So really, it's all the same, he'll just piss a lot more people off along the way.

that's how I feel.

They all sell you on change but once in office how much really gets done because no one agrees.

We've been waiting a lifetime of promises for a nuclear warhead to blow something up.

Now that we all agree the world is flat it's time to blow the roof off of this mouse trap.

He slew all 5 of Dany's dragons (yeah, she got 2 more at a pawn shop), and burned them on a pyre. Stevie Nicks arose out of the ashes and gave him an 8-month-long tambourine course.

This is all common knowledge.

Still not sure why Hartnell couldn't be part of the now and the future. People in here are clamoring for some goal scoring because of that lackluster playoff performance. And what name are we hearing? Lucic? Great, let's saddle ourselves with a monstrosity of a contract with Lucic when Hartnell could offer a very similar skill-set at smaller hit and less years.

Young players are going to find playing time if there's room. If there's no room, then they continue to marinate while the team wins. If Cousins or Laughton needed to come up, someone would've found their way off the team (Read, White, VV, etc.). Stop making it seem like a 50-60 point power forward is such a hindrance to the development of younger players. There are 15 other spots in that lineup for a player to make their way in.

- steelydan

this isnt obvious? hes 5 years older than the oldest person in a core group of players. he isnt a 60 point scorer so stop saying that, he once was, but will not be in anymore. he played a full season and had 52 this year. you think 34 year old power fowards get better with age? other than Jagr, please name some, would love to know who these super old guys are.

im not saying lucic is an answer at all, what im saying is get rid of all the cap space you can, get rid of all the bad contracts you can, build from the draft, get young players PT as soon as possible so they can be ready for when we're ready to make our run.

15 other spots, where do you get that from. theres 12 forward positions. 3 of which belong to the untouchables line who Hak has stated many times he loves. thats 9 left. bring that down to 0 after giroux, schenn, jake, simmer, coots, raffl, cousins, read, laughton. so where is there room again? id choose read over hartnell due to his two way play, our PK was atrocious, imagine what it would be like without read. id also choose laughton over hartnell. why? not because of his production, but because of his potential to help us down the road. Then again, it seems like all you care about is the points hartnell can get. which couldnt be less important towards the future of this team. you want to enjoy one more playoff game, or one more series. thats fine. im thinking about the possibilities of being like a chicago or LA down the road. to get there, you build thru the draft and develop young players, you do this to stay young, stay current, work the cap in your favor, etc. so in a couple years when your young talent needs to be paid, you'll have the necessary space due to working the cap correctly, i.e. trading large/long contracts like Hartnells.

let me pose you a question, in the year 2018-2019, who has a better chance of helping when our window of being a perennial contender is hopefully open, Scott Laughton or Scott Hartnell. you can choose hartnell but you know you'd be lying to yourself. IN 18-19, Hartnell will be a shell of himself at 36 years old. However, Laughton will be 24, and fits the view of this team set forth by Hextall. maybe he pans out, maybe he doesnt, if he does, awesome. if he doesnt then you dont have some massive contract you need to get rid of, you simply let him walk, trade him to a team who may think he has something left, which isnt hard if he doesnt have a big cap hit, or send him to the minors.

He scored 60 points last year. He's on the 4th worst team in the league. I don't care how many years he has on any of the other forwards. Go ahead and show me a cup team that didn't have a veteran on both offense and defense. I'll wait for that one. So he went from 60 to 52 and now he's incapable of scoring 60? Just because he's a power forward? He seems pretty healthy to me. Not sure why the doom and gloom. But you just keep on throwing out generalizations. Sounds great!

We've already built through the draft. This is the team. Hexy will bring along the young D, look to get some of the forwards up if they can make the leap, and then look for a FA piece or two when the time is right (another year or two). Sure they'll continue to draft. But I'm not seeing why they need to get all the cap space possible. Hartnell's cap hit is moderate. And his presence doesn't preclude them from drafting. You seem to deviate further from logic with each comment.

I counted wrong. Yes, 12 forwards instead of 16. So I'm supposed to believe that there's no room for a 60-point veteran power forward because Hakstol likes his 4th line? How can I argue with you? You're just arguing some myth that is perpetuated by no real evidence. Hakstol kept that line together because it was solid. But more importantly, he did it because there was NOTHING BETTER. Am I supposed to believe that Stamkos would sit in the Cote suite until an injury occurs because Hakstol doesn't want to break up his dependable 4th line? And they could easily trade Read. Or trade one of Cousins/Laughton for another precious draft pick. There is no blueprint on how to build a contender. It's going to require a mix of skill-sets, vets/primes/rookies, etc. No future player is going to get let go because of Hartnell's contract.

I have no way of saying who's more valuable in 2 years, Laughton or Hartnell. Hartnell will be at the end of his career, but could still be a valuable asset (sort of what Hexy was hoping Umberger would be, ya know?) Laughton could be a #3C, or he could be a bubble 4th liner with no real fit.
