Nope.

From the CBA:

No Club or Club Actor may provide, directly or indirectly, any Player or Player
Actor, with anything of value from a Club or Club Actor other than his Player Salary and
Bonuses set forth in, and in accordance with the terms of, his SPC, and his share of Benefits and
Government Mandates/Other Programs, as set forth in this Agreement or as otherwise expressly
permitted by this Agreement. A Player or Player Actor may not receive, directly or indirectly,
anything of value from a Club or Club Actor other than his Player Salary and Bonuses set forth
in, and in accordance with the terms of, his SPC, and his share of Benefits and Government
Mandates/Other Programs as set forth in this Agreement or as otherwise expressly permitted by
this Agreement. Notwithstanding the fact that a Player must disgorge anything of value he may
have received in violation of the prior sentence, a Player shall not be guilty of a Circumvention
in the absence of knowledge that the entity from which he received something of value, was a
Club Actor. No Club or Club Actor or Player or Player Actor may engage in any conduct that is
intended to pay or provide, or has the effect of, paying or providing to a Player, anything of
value other than that which the Player may properly receive through his SPC, and his share of
Benefits and Government Mandates/Other Programs, or as otherwise expressly permitted by this
Agreement. For example, a Player is prohibited from entering into an agreement with a
broadcasting company that is a Club Affiliated Entity, in which the Player agrees to host a
weekly television show, for which he is to be compensated the fair market value of such services,
as this would be something of value other than which the Player may properly receive through
his SPC, or his share of Benefits and Government Mandates/Other Programs, or as otherwise
expressly permitted by this Agreement.

And:

However, nothing in this Section 26.3(e) is intended to prohibit a Player
from entering into a sponsorship, endorsement or other commercial
arrangement with a local sponsor or entity with which his Club does
business but which is not a Club Affiliated Entity, in which the Player
receives something of value, provided the thing of value received is
commensurate with (i.e., not clearly in excess of) the fair market value of
the services rendered by the Player on behalf of the sponsor or entity.
With respect to any sponsorship or endorsement arrangement between a
Player and a national sponsor, any thing of value provided to a Player
under such arrangement shall be presumptively acceptable (i.e., such thing
of value need not meet the "fair market value" test set forth in the
preceding sentence), provided that such arrangement was not made at the
behest of the Player's Club or any other Club Actor. However, the NHL
shall have the right to challenge before the System Arbitrator, through an
expedited arbitration proceeding pursuant to the third sentence of Section
26.13(a) below, the bona fides of any such national sponsorship or
endorsement arrangement on the grounds that it was actually provided for
the benefit of a particular Club.

They wont draft a goalie..

A D prospect would be nice.. Im not sure who'll be available by that point tho.. We have Dermott and Neilsen playing well right now.

Well there's basically no point in picking another depth forward with that pick, should trade it maybe if we're well stocked at D and have no goalie options in the draft

Like envelopes with cash money?

No massive corporation is risking it's 'good standing' with the NHL, the NHLPA and the CRA by trying to avoid the CAP hit. It's small potatoes in the big corporate picture.

I think the 'influence' might be going to all of their corporate sponsors and politely demanding that they retain S.S. for their advertising/sponsorship.

Stamkos will soon be pimping AirCanada, Canadian Tire, Subway, PizzaPizza, etc...

Meaning that he cannot enter a contract with Rogers but can easily be signed by every local and non-local business that would profit from having a Maple Leaf captain as their spokesperson.

Stamkos will very easily be able to earn much more than he does in TB but still not an outrageous amount. Anyway at the end of the day this will not impact his decision. If he doesn't resign in TB and hits UFA then Toronto will have a great chance if he is ok with wasting 1-3 years of his prime on a rebuild. Doubt it comes to pass, luckily with the lottery win we don't need him anymore. Though I'll definitely take him if it is a good deal.

They should consider drafting a high upside 'keeper for sure.

But, I fully expect them to shake the trees and see if they can acquire an experienced keeper like Andersen. A good experienced goalie would be a nice fit for a group of young skaters.

Did you ignore the entire second part of my post where I inquire about workarounds and, if not, then make up the difference in the offer?

Clearly not.

Please re-read and try again, thanks

- WingmanWillie

If you knew anything about tax you would know the USA has more tax planning options than Canada, higher tax rate thresholds and overall lower tax rates. Florida not having a state income tax is huge advantage. Dallas and Nashville could offer a similar advantage but are not likely based on their caps and budgets. Stamko will sign for $10+ million and not a just over Tampa's initial offer.

Im not so sure about that..

What if Matthews comes in and puts up 75pts? Matthews might be the more sought after marketing tool.. Maybe Marner becomes the face of the franchise? And never under estimate the power of Nyladers good looks.

he makes what...1 million right now in endorsements?

800k from what I read...another site has 1.7 mil

- Lucas.Neilson

According to Forbes, Crosby makes the most in endorsements at $4M so $6M in endorsements for Stamkos is likely a stretch. I agree that Stamkos could make more in endorsements if he plays for a Canadian team but will likely payback a lot of the advantage in taxes.
