That's generally the plan. I don't see why the team can't compete for the playoffs next year if they bring in two RH top-4 Dmen (Hamonic & Vatanen, for example).

The fact of the matter is the team needs to make winning their primary goal and if they're moving Nuge now, they'll stand to gain from bringing in an elite offensive talent like Dubois to supplement the team a few years down the road when the cap starts to become a problem. There's benefits to both, but I prefer the choices for forwards available at 4 while at 32 and 62 there's a better selection of Dmen than forwards (Johansen, Dineen, Sambrook, etc).

I'd like to bring RNH back to town personally.
Not a lot of love for him on these boards (he's seen as a pre Capt America Steve Rogers), but i liked what i saw from him before he was injured and think he could be that replacement for Henrik we've been looking for.

A top-end talent that impacts all aspects of the game from different angles. May well be the most complete player in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. His multidimensional play and elite offensive prowess reminds scouts a little bit of James Neal. Competitiveness marks his game and he consistently proves to be a high impact player when he is on the ice.


Steve Kournianos, The Draft Analyst: Dubois profiles as a high-end power forward with the ability to succeed at either center or wing. A skillful tower of strength in the mold of Jamie Benn or Patrick Marleau, Dubois is a mature specimen who combines God-given physical talents with a sort of sixth sense rarely seen in a teenage prospect. He’s tough to play against on or off the puck, and uses a wide stance and long wingspan to keep the puck nestled within an impregnable zone of protection. Dubois has a long stride and reaches top speed quickly for a forward already above 200 pounds before his 18th birthday. He is a tough out in one-on-one situations, and changes gears fast enough to leave the smartest of positional defenders behind him. His pro shot and quick release are just part of a myriad of ways he can beat you. All that said, his hockey sense and ability to process plays in a nanosecond helps vault him to the upper tier of a very talented group of draft-eligible power forwards. Dubois, who plays center with aplomb, can be used in all situations regardless of how much time is on the clock, or what the scoreboard reads. He wins draws cleanly then positions himself properly immediately thereafter. Dubois does so many things exceptionally well, and playing with menace and snarl evokes memories of hockey’s heroic warriors of the 1960’s or 1970’s. A real leader with elite offensive skills and off-the-charts intangibles, Dubois comes across as the perfect specimen who we feel is less than a year away from the rigors of the NHL. Being a gym rat does have its drawbacks, however, as he seems to forget how strong he is. Dubois shows an occasional lack discipline and has to learn how to play within the rules.

I see RNH as the heir apparent to our 1st line Center...not a bandaid.
Tanev is good, but with Hutton and Tryamkin coming out of nowhere, i'd move any of the other D to fill the need at C.

Fun stat; Tanev has actually missed more games due to injury in the past 3 years than RNH Regardless, while I wouldn't mind Tanev, I'd aim higher and further than within the division.

I'm also quite surprised at the number of people who seem to find McCann as expendable. The kid just had his first season and he looked damn good during various points of the year (of course consistency is always going to be an issue with younger players but I feel that will come sooner than later with him). Basically, he needs to bulk up and get further pro experience; however, there's no denying the kid is quite talented and has top 6 forward upside

From what I've read and the little I've observed, where he's lacking is an elite top gear and in discipline at times (hence his suspension and high PIMs). Aside from that, the reports read like a top of the draft guy. In fact, they read fairly similarly to Toews' in his draft year.

Strictly from verbal I've heard from Chiarelli, he checks every box as far as player he likes. Big, competitive, committed, versatile, skilled, and young (later birthday). So, if they're picking there, I have a hard time seeing him pass on that, but I also wouldn't be surprised by one of the Dmen or a trade.

They need D as well, but mostly LHD. Despite that many of there fans are of the opinion that they should just hold tight another year or two for the sake of development and they should be along well. That having been said, they won't be nearly as open to moving Reinhart as I and some other Oil fans are to moving Nuge. He seems to be Eichel's to-be-running-mate.

for the D the issue with juloevi is talented but he is he's light....chychrun has like 50 lbs on him.
Sergachev is over 200 NHL ready and a beauty of an offense. Blinding point shot.

Id like to trade hansen, mccann for firsts if we could get in the 10-20 range and grab a dman and big c/LW assuming we take dubois at 5.

Any idea if the 2017 draft will be good and have a couple of franchise players? Hopefully we can at least win that one

Pierre-Luc Dubois turns 18 on the day he will be drafted, now that's a birthday

Dubois, nylander, Tkachuk, juolevi, brown. Still tons of talent available at number 5.
If edm takes juolevi then we have a potential future number 1 in Dubois (who might be in the top 3 most all around 'ready' of the kids). If edm takes Dubois and sells some of their younger forwards in the summer, we get a damn good defenceman in juolevi. No need to be sad people =)
