I think we can still get a quality dman in the 2nd round.
I want dubois at 5 or trade back a few spots and grab brown and hopefully get an extra 2nd. - mauryballstein
This is much what i am thinking. |

He's listed as LW. Can play center and plays centre is a pretty big difference when you're looking for a #1 Center.
We need LW as well, but if we are picking between lw and d , shouldn't we go with high end dman? - Scooby_Doo

So we are either getting Tkachuk or Dubois it would seem. - Scooby_Doo
I know it's "easy for me to say" Scooby, but those are 2 pretty damn good choices.

We need scoring desperately. I don't care what position they play. |

That's what kills me... The new system is supposed to discourage tanking... Canucks did not tank and were punished.
Toronto tanked on purpose and walked away with the ace.
Either the NHL is corrupt or extremely inept.
As much as I used to be convinced it was the former... It's definitely the latter. - rugdnit
This is what kills me, all the whining people are doing over this. Dear god. Odds were we were picking 5th all along. We didn't get "punished", the cookie just crumbled this way. Odds were that Toronto was picking somewhere other than first (80%), but they also had the highest percentage of actually having that first pick out of any one team. Someone had to pick first, and they just won that lottery. Easy to complain about the system now that we've been oh so "punished", but no one was complaining at the beginning of the year when they changed it. Try not to feel butthurt and mope now that we could have had something that we didn't really fathom at the start of the season. |

We are taking a D. Benning said so - CanuckDon
Gotta' go with BPA. If that's a D man then so be it. Just remember that Duncan Keith was a 2nd round pick. |

WOW.
GOOD FOR YOU.
In all honesty the only thing I am " butthurt " about is Nathan Lafayette hitting the post. |

Yes, the new system is supposed to discourage tanking, but that does not mean if you do suck you will be necessarily rewarded. I don't understand the problem...
This explains why i don't gamble. I either get it...or i really don't get it, either way i'm not shocked that we didn't win a lottery. |

It's disheartning when you are hoping on a top 3 but we have had a good start to the Summer and it's just begining.
Congrats on the number 1 overall |

The writing has been on the wall for fans to be disappointed, ever since lineups included Mathews and Laine on the 2nd line.
Considering past freak outs, this place is holding it together pretty well. |

Perhaps I should clarify before all the raging preparation H users on the east coast jump on me... It's not so much that the Canucks dropped, so much as the team that intentionally tanked won. |

Who's whining? I'm quite happy to be picking 5th, it's our highest pick in 25 years. The weather is (frank)ing awesome no one has time to mope or be butthurt. |

I want a forward personnaly. Benning indicated he is taking a forward at 4 and a D at 5 or 6. |

I would hope that he would continue to improve, but not many believe he will develop into a 1C.
RNH should be able to be a 1C, especially with the right linemates (boesser, JV) - dbot
RNH has been putting on weight, hes a guy i wouldnt mind at all, we need someone. |

Thanks Vantel.
I won't say we aren't happy, but the Leafs threads for the past couple months have been all about Tkachuk, Nylander, Juolevi, Chychrun, Dubois. We just assumed we would pick 4th and we really were mostly OK with one of those guys.

As frustrated as I am, at least Winnipeg and Columbus didn't try to tank. I agree with an earlier poster, no team should get more than 2 top five picks in a five year period. And the Oilers shouldn't get a top 50 for the next five years due to gross incompetence. |

which is why I suggested Habs #9 to take sergachev. J Subban may have big value to the habs in a package....
Theres so many intangibles....depends on who oilers pick....if its Joulevi then do we take tkachuk at 5....Maybe they take Tkachuk and we take dubouis or chychrun...maybe they pick chychrun and we have the pick of all 4 of them.
Personally I would like an extra pick or 2... 6-15 range. Take a forward and a D or 2. - SMBDragon
If vancouvers trading a package id hope its not for a draft pick but for a player that we know is good, Barrie/Faulk (carolinas not minny) Myers/Trouba/Vantanen/Hamonic |

I have NP with Columbus and Winnipeg jumping up. They didn't tank. It came at our expense, but those are good franchises that have had some crappy luck. |

while I like players like Hanson adn Mcann if in the case of Hanson they get a premium D in the draft do it. - SMBDragon
With hansen he will more than likely get picked up in the expansion draft so I thats why I seriously look at moving him before you get nothing for him. |

That was the "fix" that the League failed to make.
The problem was never with the last place team getting the first pick. The problem was that one team got a bunch of first over-alls.
The simple solution is to only allow a first overall say once in 5 years, or some other restriction like that. I am still not sure why the league didn't do that.

As long as you got the #1 pick what is there to justify?
The team intentionally tanked and walked away with the prize despite the leagues best intentions to prevent INTENTIONAL TANKING. |
