As far as I am concerned you can have Stamkos. The money and term this guy wants is something we don't need right now. If it was three years from now I would say differant. ( now especially with this blood clot thing)

I am really hoping someone signs him so Toronto doesn't. Most Leaf fans feel differantly then I do though.

Id offer 7 x $9.5 and that is it. If Stamkos wants a cup now he wont sign in TO. If Stamkos wants the most money he wont sign in TO. I think we are safe.

if i'm not mistaken, there are a few people who think picks 4-8 (or 10) are all about equal in talent, it's more a matter of what a team is looking for
- Michael Pachla

I would agree. I think Edm goes for the D man at 4 and then it gets interesting for Van and Calgary. Dubois seems to fit what the Nucks need and Calgary would go for Tkachuk, another need. That leaves Arizona and Buff picking a d men,.

I tend to agree this is a great thing for the rivalry between these teams. Something that frankly hasn't existed for years. The most rivalry Toronto and Buffalo have had is Leaf fans filling up seats in Buffalo for games and Buffalo mostly winning those games.

Now? Both teams are rebuilding well and should move into a competitive position at around the same time. Will be some fun hate between the fanbases. Still well off in the future, but exciting playoff series between these teams is likely out there as well.

Just objectively it is kind of interesting that the big rivalry in this division could be two great US centers in Eichel and Matthews squaring off for years.

This

Edm might be the only team looking to take a defender in the top 5.
Or even potentially Dubois who seems abit like a chiarelli type.

Calgary is probably thinking best winger available to round out their 2nd line. If he's got some edge to his game as Burke likes, even better.

Etc etc

Not really about which guy is the best. But more best fit for the team

edm might be interested in trading down a few spots depending what else they can get with it?

I think Chychrun and Juolevi will be gone by #8. I'm putting our draft at 40% trade the pick for Risto's partner. 60% Nylander being there for us.

And, if we want to shut Toronto fans up, sign Stamkos. If we really want to be considered a legit contender with the big guys in this league, it's time for us to step up and take what we want.

- sskkoo1

Chychrun probably still there at 8, and nylander likely gone well before 8.

I really have no idea what they would want from us but it will have to be a deal they can't pass up. I would just guess a roster player and a pick. Would Foligno or Girgs be offered and a pick? Who knows but as another poster pointed out, if Tkachuk is there at 6 for the Flames they will probably just take him.

Maybe Carrier, a 3rd, and our extra 2nd next year? Not enough?

have really taken a liking to sergachev at no. 8...

has an nhl frame at 6'2" 205 lbs., skates very well...plus he put up 57 points (17+40) in 67 games and was a plus-15

They would be better off just taking Tkachuk than do that deal imo.

I have t come around on him yet. Even though D is a need is still want any of Dubois/Nylander over Serg. But I'd take the other 2 D over Dubois

Just a thought but if there is a run on d men in the first 8 selections (Chychrun, Sergachev, Juolevi), then it could be that Nylander slides down the board a bit.

Yeah, most likely. But I'm ok with TM giving up something more to get Tkachuk. I think he is the best fit to be Eichel's winger.

I would as well. A Tkachuk-Eichel-Reinhart line would look good.

I hope the Sabres allow STH's the option for additional seats to the draft. I'll get the max and will go with friends. I hope other STH's help keep Tor fans to a minimum

I agree Calgary makes the pick, but it took a 3rd pick to move from 13 to 12 in 2008 and it took a second round pick (42) to move up seven spots 21 to 14 to get Girgs. So moving two spots 8 to 6, yeah a second and a third round pick at least and maybe even a vet or prospect.

"Agreed that Matthews is "certainly not Eichel". Eichel isn't a bad player, but we've already got a few of his caliber, and he's certainly not the kinda guy you're hoping for after finishing dead last.

Though, even if Matthews only tops out as an Eichel-like player, at least we didn't have to watch two historically bad rosters, built entirely for the purpose of getting someone else, to get him.

That would suck.
- Feeling Glucky?"

From Garths blog.... I guess the former mayor passed down some good stuff to some of the residents.

I'm not mad that buff didn't get a top 3. It's Tor at #1 that just feels so wrong. Their fans are the worst

It is doubtful anyone in the top 3 would trade their pick but I almost wonder if Edmonton would be the team to target. They need defense. While we need a #1 D, defenseman in general, we have an abundance of. Risto, Gorges, Bogo and McCabe aren't going anywhere. Edmonton wouldn't want Franson. However, if we gave them #8 and Pysyk...they give us #4...??? Whatcha think?

Nelson, Guhle and Franson fight for the remaining 2 spots on the top 6. If Nelson or Guhle loses, sign Colo to be 7th D again. If Franson loses press box him, who cares.

Edit: I am stretching, but I feel McCabe can be that #2 to Risto next year.

I get zero satisfaction out of the fact that Edmonton didn't win the lottery, or even got bumped out of the top 3. They already got the prize that matters.

Total guess on my part. Just thinking a little outside the box. If Tkachuk is there at 6, I would think Murray would love to get him. If not, we'll pick a nice prospect at 8.
- mhp

Oh, not sure if some one knew Murray liked Tkachuk

Strong possibility for sure

I think they look to deal it in a package for an established guy first and foremost.

Then probably look ok at other options if that doesn't look feasible

I think edm is looking at true top 4 guys as depth in young talent back there isn't a huge issue. Pysyk is intriguing, but doesn't really fit that need

On pure value it's not a bad offer tho. Especially if the they liked juolevi etc as much as chycrun

If that's the case, Buffalo is out of the running for it. The only "established player" the Oilers would want in that scenario is Ristolainen, and we both know that's not going to happen.
