So whats up with Maatta? He had the one bad game against the Rags... then looked fine since. Is this simply his conditioning not being back and he just was a bit fortunate during the Rangers series due to them being slower?

If so... gotta sit him one game and have him working out a bit extra, need him back to his real self, so he doesn't cost us a game when its more vital.

- Guile

It's a mystery. He was not this slow and mistake prone as a rookie. I agree he's got to sit if he can't compete. The Caps will bury his mistakes.....like last night.

fine, whatever. (frank) tom wilson. malkin, letang, or crosby should fight him every chance they get.
- Blackstrom2

I think you're a pretty solid citizen around here. None of this is directed at you. I just happen to think a guy like Wilson (size, speed and recklessness) could seriously hurt somebody if he doesn't control himself.

I only brought up the slash when people are talking about the ref. I'm not really comparing the two. It's clear that the refs missed that and it's puzzling that he only got fined.
- Blackstrom2

My bad.

On the refs I thought they were actually pretty good, I thought they did a good job of letting the players play. So I am inclined to believe the Wilson knee was missed, probably the Lovejoy slash as well.

The fine is even worse than not reviewing it at all.

I would take Maata out of the line up. I'm not sure who can slot top 4. I would roll the dice on Cole to play with Letang. Lovejoy if you want a vet. I would prefer Pouliot but Id be fine with schult-Cole/lovejoy 3rd pairing.

Maata bounced back after a bad game against the Rangers, they'll give him the opportunity to do so again this time around.

Otherwise

Letang Dumo
Daley Lovejoy
Schultz Cole

I think you're right. He'll be in the lineup tomorrow. However, I think the rope is getting shorter.

I wouldn't load up the first pair with Dumoulin. He makes the 2nd pair work. I would feel comfortable with lovejoy up there and just give Letang a trusted vet

Way off topic, but on a hit like that would a player have any ability to file a lawsuit against Wilson.

Presuppose that hit was a career ender for sheary. He's out something between 700k a year for his career or potentially Kunitz money for 10 years. The hit had zero hockey purpose. Since the league won't enforce it could he make an argument in court that it was assault (since it lacked hockey intent) and get a huge claim in the process.

Suppose that Sheary is out of work for his career he wouldn't have any reason to maintain relations with the NHLPA or other powers that be.

- sditulli

Contact like that may not have immediate effects to the health of his knee, but it may initiate long term damage that has a great influence on his health & career.

No action to stop that poop falls directly back on the nhlpa - they have absolutely no regard to protecting 'their' players. Looking after Wilsons interests are much greater.

I believe if there was a court case there would be compensation if injury occurred.

Wilson is a G.R.U.B. Well done Caps & Trotz in particular for supporting this type of play. If Wilson was my team mate, I'd be asking the coach to piss him off!!!

Yep. I'm far more worried about what they'd do if Sheary and Kunitz were unavailable tomorrow. Sheary seemed like a maintenance day. He kept playing but swelling the day after can always cause problems.

They might not have to be as aggressive with their defensemen as they were against the Rangers - the Capitals aren't a trapping team, and the neutral zone isn't clogged up. The Penguins don't need their defensemen to gain the zone like they did last series. And the Capitals' transition game is much better than the Rangers, so they can hurt the Penguins if the Penguins gamble too much.

Caps have a lot to clean up. Struggled mightily with Pens speed, look liked we've never seen a stretch pass before and d zone turnovers galore. Orpik clearly looked like he wasn't ready to be back in the lineup. Wilson is better than a bottom 6 pug, kills penalties and has offensive skill but he has zero discipline and self control

I love people on these boards that think they know it ALL. Well they don't. If they did they would not be on these sites telling everyone what should and shouldn't be done. Just go with the flow and drink your alcohol and be happy. Remember your youth is temporary but stupid is forever.

Yohe saying Sheary will be ready. Kunitz is the only question mark.

horrendous non-call on the wilson play. blatant dirty interference with no other intention except to injure. and then he has the balls to stand there and make a face, like, "what? i didn't do anything."

sucks that you guys lost on a goal like that, too. just game 1.

What makes Wilson so much worse, besides obvious intent to injure, is that he is a huge baby when someone actually hits him (see Malkin, Evgeni last night) or acts like it was an accident (see Bonino boarding hit). Just be a wiener... dont be a sheepish, apologetic wiener.

You go to the Rags board after Tangers contact with Stalberg complaining about how the Pens fans would whinge if that were reversed. Now after Wilson does something a lot worse you haven't come in here saying he should be suspended???

So if a Penguin does it your on the wagon, but when Wilson (Caps player), you come in here a defend his actions. So you say he is reckless or careless but I'm still waiting for you to drop the line - you know the same one you were beating on about for Letang??

Stop being a hypocrite. Talk hockey all you want, but when you go to another board & female dog about a Pens player, then come onto our thread & defend an action that's worse because he's a Caps player............you lose credibility.

Wilson is a G.R.U.B!

I lost credibility with the great aussiepensfan? Oh (frank) me.

I've said multiple times that Wilson should be suspended for the knee on knee, but really, the parade of ref this and ref that and OT goal shouldn't have counted and blah blah...kind of proves my point about ya'll.
