Are you really making excuses up for the building it's been absolutely terrible I can understand the The building being dead quiet Last year . But this year you have Jack and Sam you had Ryan O'Reilly you had hope yet the fans just did their usual crap I'm just saying let's not make up excuses

Go to any other arena and it's a lot different atmosphere and this one is just terrible
It needs help

I love how the posters here say we don't need yandle

he has really good wheels for a d man
great shot
points up points
under 30

better than all of our current d men for next season's opening night roster as of now

- homiedclown

Nothing you said hit on the fact that his defense is not good enough for the money that he's going to get. Call me old fashioned but I'd like my defense to be able to play defense. The points and the great shot are extras but defense comes first.

if you play him with bogo, I think it's a decent second pair which allows bogo to focus on play in his own end

Yeah I can say this about any arena. Toronto was quiet as hell. Montreal had 2/3 of the people leave before the 3rd period. Tampa they had no idea what was going on. New Jersey is self explainable. Columbus no one knew what was happening. So a fanbase that has been terrible for 3 years and below average for 9 has a poor atmosphere and your point is what? Sorry, it's not a real problem it's just another thing for people to whine about. Winning fixes everything. Give people a reason to cheer and they will.

OK the point of this is the Sabres have been quite morgue type for the past two years maybe three those places only have 1 to 2 games when they're are quiet

Tampa bay games are never quiet I don't know where you got that information from

And that's fine, but I don't think our defense nor our goaltending are at the point where we can be okay with taking a defensive liability for the sake of scoring. Our defense was middle of the pack last year while our offense was bottom but you've got to have the pieces up front worry about the scoring while the defensemen worry about the back end.

That said, I'm not saying I was 6 Mike Webers. I like guys who can step up at the right time and can contribute on the score sheet. I just don't want to give up defense for that with where we are yet. If Risto can stay defensively sound for a full 82 games, McCabe continues to excel, and Bogo plays like 2nd half Bogo then sure. In my opinion I'm just not convinced we're there. Yet.

Drake Caggiula expected to make a decision sometime next week when he gets back to Grand Forks on who he will sign with.

No reports suggesting that he's visited with Buffalo yet. In fact, he's only reportedly been with the Flyers and are visiting with the Canucks this weekend.

Personally, I'd rather sign Vesey. But that's gonna take a while to see where he goes. Signing him, he's only a top 6 kind of player. That really clogs up the lines for forwards for future signings like that Stamko guy and pursuing Vesey... and/or others.

So for the Expansion Draft, what's the list of players we protect...realizing that if we add a guy with 7 letters, it will change ... if we go with

Eichel, Reinhart and McCabe are all excluded since they will be 2nd Year Players

Protect 8 skaters:
ROR
Kane
Ennis
Girgenson
Larson
Risto
Bogo
Pysyk

so, with Girgenson and Ennis...my thought is we hope they turn their game around from last year...if not, trade preferably or leave them unprotected.

But it's still a point that a team that has finished 23rd, 30th, 30th, 23rd in the standings isn't overly excited for its hockey team. Yeah we have Jack and ROR and Sam and when they did something the building was excited for it. But the fact of the matter is they still didn't make the playoffs, still lost a lot at home, and still didn't play that well. A sporting event is for entertainment. If the entertainment is lacking (which is a league wide issue as well as a Buffalo issue) then the energy in the arena is lacking as well.

Maybe I'm making an assumption but I'm going to assume you weren't there at any of the games 05-09 heck even through 2011 when we made the playoffs. It was one of the loudest arenas in the league. I had seasons from 05-08 and it was always loud even in the 200's. I'm not making excuses it's a number of different logical reasons why the arena is so quiet.

The number 1 reasons is winning. Tampa? Give me a (frank)ing break. When they weren't good they could barely fill up the (frank)ing place. How quick one forgets... Washington? They had nearly half empty arenas the year before they got Ovi. Don't even get me started on Anaheim and LA...

This year fans were starting to attempt to get more into games but there are numerous other reasons why the atmosphere hasn't been as loud

One being the fact that the game has changed and the Sabres under Bylsma play a very boring defensive game. I went to about six or so games this year and whenever Eichel had the puck or we were in the lead or rallying the crowd got into it. The Edmonton game actually gave me flashbacks to 07 for a few moments.
The arena experience is also significantly worse than it was back in the 2000's why is that? Not quite sure. You'd think it would get better not worse but that's something that needs to change significantly. Don't come on here and act like it's the quietest fanbase at a game when you've probably been to five significant Sabres games in your lifetime.

Names ?
- 22sabresQ

I don't have any names, that was me thinking out loud, most are focused on the Ducks when the Wild have a couple we could use at around the 4 mill a year range.

McCabe is not protected because he will still be a 3rd year pro before July 2017.

With McCabe not protected..

ROR
Kane
Ennis
Girgensons
Larsson
Foligno
(veteran acquisition)

Risto
Bogo
McCabe

you think it has anything to do with the level of play for those two examples in those 2 years.

when Reinhart and Eichel had the puck...the crowd was excited.

It is all about the level of play...go to a game at FNC during the 17-18 season you will walk out with ringing ears, guaranteed.

10-11 a year was what I was told for Stamkos from the Sabres, think Kopitar deal or somewhat along those lines. I think Tampa can only offer him the max but the Sabres have there own number in mind.

I think caggiula would make a great 3rd line winger right away

sneaky speed and leadership skills

we have a better roster with him on it, but I think vesey has much more upside

true story as I went to more then a few games then
