It's not just because Oil keep getting 1st overall, other teams(not oil) were tanking on purpose. That's what needs to be avoided. Oilers have just bin incredibly lucky.
- jaredwildzee

Yeah, you guys are so lucky to have a team that for whatever reason can't get out of the basement... Sure the Leafs tanked on purpose, but the oilers tried to win and didnt fair any better.

In the end I think it all has to do with the fact that the Oilers just can't seem to do anything with the picks. If they showed any progression or improvement I think people would be fine with it. What bothers me most is the idea that all of this elite talent seems to be wasted, which isn't great for the NHL as a whole. 4 of the best young players in the last 6 or so years are irrelevant to the league which is bad for hockey. These guys should be playing meaningful games and showing their talent, building storylines like Crosby and OV are, instead they're out of contention a third of the way into the season. Maybe next year it can turn around.

Do you not see that Edmonton (I'd argue the rest of Canadian teams too) faces challenges in building a team that other teams don't?

MMC=Don't trade me to Edmonton Clauses. Nobody wants to restrict these.

Can you think of any player in the past 10 years that refused to waive a NMC to come to Edmonton? Think of any that didn't want to stay in Edmonton?

I think you might actually be the first non oiler fan to spot this

It's like, dude, if you were any good at trolling, you'd know calling us tankers isnt correct. Beyond the hall/nuge years, we've actually been actively trying to get better. And still can't.

You're the one coming in here talking poop. You don't have a clue what they tried or what the offers were. All you and the other idiots continue to do is use hind sight to say they should have done something different. (frank) off.

Anyone of you guys could have legitimately done the same, if not a better job than Oilers management since the cup appearance. And I think I'm serious.

You say that, but most people here are or have been either too enamored with the young core to ever consider trading them for less than a substantial overpayment while undervaluing virtually every other player in the league (so pretty much no UFAs) or would deal them at a dime on the dollar because "Hall turns the puck over" or "Nuge is too small" or "Eberle's only use is for scoring".

I feel like we would've traded everyone and then eventually ended up with everyone anyway. And all in one month. The NHL16 trades would've just been unreall.

Hasn't that basically been the issue with Oilers management, overall inability to pull the trigger and make touch decisions

Nuge was offered in a trade if you recall, so I don't think its about ever wanting to not trade the young core

Buffalo should pick a random Hockeybuzz blogger, maybe they could win the first cup in franchise history.

We must never forget how great of a human Ryan smyth is.
Probably the only person in history to request a trade from LA to Edmonton Alberta

That was just this past season. The discussion was more geared towards the 4 years prior.

Lets just all be honest with why each side is arguing

Oilers fans want the best team possible so in three years they can be blowing teams out of the water

Everyone else doesnt because they know how good they will eventually be with so much talent

My take, each team gets a certain number of lotto balls based on there record. Take away a certain amount for having last years number one overall pick

Oilers can still win and it gives a team like the canucks ( who need some glimmer of hope) better odds

Sorry nucks fans i just dont see lucic signing...nor do i see anyone yiur going to get alot in return in a trade....maybe miller

Hey Guys,

Sorry I arrived a little late. Have we established that the fans in Edmonton are actually to blame for Edmonton's woes, more so the Edmonton fans here on hockey buzz?

Because you are. All of you. Shame

Indeed. I find the lack of Edmonton fans going into opposing teams threads and proposing absolutely insane trades for top 2 defensemen absolutely repugnant. It's like they are sitting on their hands doing nothing about the situation.

And the fact that they don't say "done deal" every time someone comes in and offers a #3 or 4 defenseman for two top 6 forwards and this years first is just as telling. Shame on them.
