They can't skate like it's preseason in the first tow periods and show up in the third. So Bish looked like he was on vacation, it's not pretty but it happens . Glad they woke ep just not down three goals. Show up next game guys. |

Your first line is going to give us fits as we saw in the third period. I have no idea how we'll contain those three? Their speed is incredible and Killorn always kills us. Going to be a tough, long series I feel. |

Going to be a very good series. I think the Lightning need to be more physical, when the forecheck was going hard it was causing fits. Callahan was running into every one near him and you could see by the end of the game it was wearing them Isles down. The Islanders stood tall and won the game, wasn't the best game the Lightning have played but a win is a win. Game 2 on Saturday is a massive game, need some more energy and some more urgency like we saw in the 3rd period. |

No news as of now. I'm not going to argue it wasn't a clean hit because boarding is not defined penalty, it's up to the discretion of the ref but I could also see an argument for boarding. Here is the NHL definition of boarding:
"A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee".
Condra was kind of defenseless as he was leaning in towards the puck, not the opponent and he was not very far away from the board. I also can see the argument that it was not illegal. I guess I'm saying it could have been a penalty but also understand why it was not called a penalty. I would say it was illegal as far as the rules go, not a dirty play. |

Condra was facing Cizikas and got hit legally. Cizikas got the better of him, but i really didnt see anything wrong with the hit. Sometimes players take hits to make plays.....
When they refer to defenseless opponents, usually its when a players back is facing the player whos hitting them. Im not sure how you can be defenseless if you're facing the player hitting you. Its the NHL, guys finish checks..... |

Go watch it...Condra was skating into the corner with Cizikas behind him chasing, Condra turned to clear the puck and as he was turning and clearing the puck Cizikas gave a strong one armed shove, not a shoulder to shoulder hit. I'm on the fence, I do think it could have easily been called boarding because of how close to the wall he was and how Condra was defenseless by leaning away from Cizikas. It was not a shoulder to shoulder hit, it was not a high hit to the head but could easily have been a boarding penalty making it an illegal hit. |

I did watch it, and clearly the refs thought otherwise. The NHL is on top of illegal hits, and im sure if they thought it was illegal he'd have been given a 5, and a game. Condra turned into the hit..........he was FACING Cizikas at the time of impact. The bottom line, is you gotta be aware of that. |

I can't find the NHL definition of check but USA Hockey defines a legal check as hitting the opponent with the trunk (hips and shoulders) not shoving into the boards. The game is VERY fast, if the refs had the ability to watch it on replay who knows what they would have called. Again not arguing that it was for sure illegal but I can see how it could be considered illegal. I would not say it was for sure a legal hit, it is very borderline.

We'll agree to disagree........you could make an argument if the head was the initial point of contact. It wasnt. The bottom line is, this is the NHL, and in the playoffs guys are going to be hitting hard. Finishing your check is completely legal, and Condra had just played the puck so was off balance. Thats not Cizikas problem, nor should he let up. It sucks that Condra got hurt.......you never wanna see that. But just because a guy got hurt, doesn't mean the guy delivering the hit did something wrong. |

No I don't think head was initial point at all. I guess I just don't see how you can't see how it maybe was boarding which makes it illegal. It was not a center ice open ice hit, it was with the player a few feet away from the boards. I'm not even going with the fact he was hurt, guys can get hurt just skating around but I can also see a very strong case for a boarding penalty.

if someone gets hit in the chest while facing the opponent how can you call that defenseless? It's a completely legal hit with a very unfortunate result. You can't possibly tell a player that hitting someone square in the chest is now boarding unless you want to take hitting out of the game entirely.
there is no case for boarding here. if condra gets up right away no one even mentions it, it's only because he was hurt that you're even talking about it. Clean, legal hit, unfortunate result.

It's all how someone would define "defenseless" player. Some people define that as a player who can not brace for contact. Defenseless does not mean can't see the other player. The NHL puts the onus on the checking player to make sure the player being hit is not in a vulnerable position and then not tossed "violently or dangerously". I am not saying it was a 100% illegal check, in center ice it is legal but once you get that close to the boards you add that element of violence and danger. I get it is a physical game but these are direct words and rules from the NHL. All I am saying is you could make an argument it was boarding just as everyone can make an argument it was not, I can see both. |

if he wasn't hurt, we're not even talking about it and that to me shows it's not a borderline hit. I didn't like seeing him hurt, and I do not ever wish an injury on anyone, but those hits happen all the time and as long as it's not from behind it's never called boarding. |

I anticipate much of the series to be like the first two periods, vvery back and forth and anyones game. Isles looked gassed from the NHL screwing them giving them their 1st game of rd2 when rd1 wasn't even over and they just finished playing two 2OT games in a row.
Kind of upsetting we are playing you this round for I really like the bolts, very good and clean team |

I'm just going by the rules of the NHL and saying I could see someone make an argument for boarding. Boarding is VERY vague and says words like defenseless player and throw violently and dangerously into the boards. Again it is all about the definition of defenseless player which the NHL does not specifically define.

Are you serious right now???? Clutterbuck was on his knees (DEFENSELESS) and the head was the initial point of contact into the boards....

No I am proving my point that defenseless is not defined and can make an argument that defenseless means on your knees, back turned, or not in position to brace for a hit. |
