I hear you but I think we need more high risk/ high reward players.

We haven't swung for the fences with an early pick since Grabner.

- belcherbd

Very true. I would prefer a puck moving or shut down Dman, or a big scoring forward with the 2nd but if he is there you for sure have to consider it.

I would like to see them draft a bigger shut down guy with the 33 Rd and either trade for an offensive Dman or go for Yandle in free agency .
- VANTEL

Logan stanley could be there at 33 i would be totally fine with him there.

For me its a huge NO to Yandle. He wil be retired by the time we make the playoffs again.

He would be a perfect Dman available to us to teach Hutton how to be an offensive dman and QB a PP

I think he would be good for Hutton and Tanev. I don't see Edler as the teacher type.

Why is he NO at 33? You think we have too much talent? Too risky?
- belcherbd

Saw him play at the prospects game. Knocked off the puck way too easily and way too often. Skill like that may be great for Junior hockey and maybe even the regular season of the NHL. But the odds are very, very slim that he'd have any success in the playoffs when things start to matter.

The Canucks are already too small and too soft. Plus they have Baertschi as their designated, undersized skill guy. You wanna fix this team, spend the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks on big D men who can skate, shoot and have some potential offensive upside.

Its said Edler is a very quiet guy, not really the guy you want to have as a teacher

There is that , and I also think Yandle can ease some of the pressure off Edler too. Edler can play second unit guy and not have to be The Guy.

I think Edler would be good with Tryamkin.

Too old. Yandle is a better option at this point.

The problem is cost though.
He's the best UFA defenseman out there.
Even if we get him for 6.75 (currently at 5.75) our D would be...

Yandle Tanev (6.75/4.5) 11.25
Edler Tree (5/1) 6
Hutton Sbisa (.9/3.6) 4.5
Pedan ?1

So. 22.75 m or so. Which is about 3m more than we spent this year on D and would have to come out of somewhere.

Call me crazy but you need to score goals to win the cup.

By the way past playoff scoring leaders are not exactly giants either so the argument that only big guys score in the playoffs doesn't make any sense to me.

Hamhuis was a FA when we signed him and stuck with the team for years. Same as Hossa with the Hawks . Yandle is young enough to come on board for 4 years . We could also take a contract like Okposo. If we sign both between 12-13 mil that's adding two key pieces and still after Etem Sven Pedan are signed leaves us about 10 mil in space.

As Don has been saying for a while stop trying to save the cap space we have plenty.

We need offensive defence man almost as much as size, could you imagine how this team would look if they had someone like Barrie/Faulk/Vantanen moving the puck and also a scoring threat from the back end.

Why does everyone keep forgetting about Philip Larsen? Maybe he is a bust but he should get a chance. He averaged over 9 shots a game in the KHL! Young and hungry to get a second chance. (frank) another aged vet!

Never forgot about him, just would be more confident in the team if they had Barrie/Faulk/Vantanen, who arent aged vets

Most of us do have him included as a third pairing. Insurance , injury and we need to increase by about 50 PTs on the back end is why I am looking at other options

Tanev and Sbisa both don't have NTC correct? Any chance they are moved for a more offensive option? Tanev actually has a NTC but I doesn't kick in until after next season.

Anything can happen I guess. Every time Benning talks about Tanev it's always high praises, so I am not sure.

I seen Benning make three moves in the last two months towards the D and even today's news about the college Dman signing with Pitt. I don't think he is done doing business yet.

No one is teaching them how to score at this level (sorry dragon).
i think mentor ship on D is about positioning, prep, and being a pro.
Hamhuis could do these fine.
