Some do.... I agree he is small but while 2 inches important in some applications..... I don't buy that there is a difference between 5'7 and 5'9 when talking about hockey players. - belcherbd
2 inches being important are you bragging or complaining? |

I hear you but I think we need more high risk/ high reward players.
We haven't swung for the fences with an early pick since Grabner. - belcherbd

Hansen or hamhuis rights + pick come to mind for a late first rounder - pker2theend
Hamhuis rights won't get anything but Hansen and our 2nd could probably do it but don't know if it would be worth it. |

Thats what makes it a hard decision for me (also that I dont know the players that well in that draft range), I like it when they take a chance on a high skill guy. I'm just having a hard time ignoring the lack of quality or promising defense in the system and how an early 2nd rounder could hopefully yield a really good one.
They do have a high 3rd, so maybe they look at them as equivalent to a late 1st and late 2nd and take the shot? I trust them to take BPA in all rounds, so theres a chance they go for another F with 33 |

He fell to us and was seen as a very safe pick at that spot, ditto with Shinkaruk and McCann. |

Alex DeBrincat
It’s easy to see why there’s a range of opinions on this sniper. The first thing you notice about him is his size. He stands just 5-foot-7 (I actually think he’s closer to 5-foot-6). He is the smallest player on the ice on most nights, if not every night.
Theo Fleury was short, but played big and had attitude that pushed him... not sure this guy is in the same category or even attitude like Martin St. Louis.... |

He's apparently still riding shotgun to Strome this year - WhiteLie
Strome was a bit of a mess in the London series - certainly the last game. |

I won't pretend to know anything about his attitude but from what I have read he does have a feisty attitude.
Was tossed from the under 18's for spearing a player recently, which I certainly don't condone but points to him not necessarily rolling over. |

Don't think we have the assets.
Shink and the 33rd might of been able to swing a late first. - belcherbd
I heard today on the radio this upcoming year as being described as the perfect storm.
The NHL team has 23 roster spots mostly filled , and with a large amount of youth.
We have two very good draft spots this year. We have more than enough cap space. Our farm club is starting to get a little stronger. We also have a very good addition next year with Demko , and maybe the following year with Boeser and Brisboise.
I think a good practice going forward is to hang onto our first , second , and third round draft picks.
I think at this time we have plenty of youth and it is time to focus on NHL players. |

Didn't know much about him before reading this today and was shocked to see how productive he has been. - belcherbd
I knew who you were talking about but I'm late to the party. The answer is NO. That being said, Benning has scouted him several times |

Why is he NO at 33? You think we have too much talent? Too risky? |

I thought we all agreed that we need help on D and that we'd focus on that in rounds 2-4??
No to the pipsqueak (we've tried to take the last 1st smurf with Schroeder, Shink), not the right fit for this team.
If he was available in late rounds, then sure, but not at 33. |

Too much talent
You never know as Benning seems to like him. We are taking a forward unless we drop to 6 so we need a D man in the second. A little guy like that is an extreme long shot. |

I would like to see them draft a bigger shut down guy with the 33 Rd and either trade for an offensive Dman or go for Yandle in free agency . |

Hamhuis?
edit:
I'm not a big fan of Yandle personally, especially for the cost. Seems like another Edler, only more expensive. (and we don't need another Edler).

This is where I would agree and also argue with you. I agree that horvat is not the type of player that elevates the play of his peers like Crosby, Stamkos, etc do. But that doesn't mean he can't be a #1 center. He is more like getzlaf where he wins faceoffs, plays hard, goes to the dirty area and can be counted on in any situation, whether it be PP, PK, or play a major part in that goal to tie the game in dying minutes. Laine will be that guy that could make that 1st line elite, while BoHo gives Laine the support he needs to do it. Like Backstrom(sorry I don't think he is Elite like many other #1 centers inthe league w/o Ovi) - Retinalz
This exactly. |

Not a chance with Hamhuis
Yandle puts up 50 PTs a year. He would replace Edler on the first PP and could mentor Tanev to be more productive. |
