Do you have access to youtube? (ie: are you on a work computer that blocks it?), if so I'll post the video for you to decide.

i) I don't think I'd consider Condra "defenseless", although it depends on your interpretation of that term. He had just chipped the puck up the boards and Casey came in and nailed him.

ii) I would not say Cizikas tried to minimize contact

ii) Was the hit unavoidable? I guess not? But in that sense, isn't any hit avoidable?

I don't think it's as much poorly defined as it is "loosely" defined so that referees can exercise some degree of judgement based on the players intent. Did Casey intend to hit him? Sure. But I think the room for judgement exists to penalize plays in which the player executing the hit manages to do something blatantly illegal during the act. The hit itself was completely clean, but unfortunately Condra flew back and the boards happened to be there.

Yeah I just saw it. I think it all hinges on i) and I think i) is debatable in this case. But like I said earlier I think with boarding being such an extreme judgement call the NHL should stand by the refs choice for something as hair-splitting as arguing defenselessness in this case.

I don't think yourself not being prepared to take a hit should be sold as defenseless but then again I'm a victim blamer...

I like how Greiss is involved in this game. Deflecting the puck away from the net. He's doing a good job.

I agree about the difference on not being prepared vs. being defenseless. To me, the simple fact that there's so much in question here is evidence enough that the correct (non) call was made.

I don't ever want to see anyone get a concussion and I hope Condra ends up OK. It was genuinely a terrible end result, but I can't find anything Casey did wrong.

He was pretty solid for them all year, though there was a drop off when he played to much. He seems to have worked out that issue.

Screened by the defenseman. It's tricky to pick up when a player releases the puck near the dman's skates.

Bishop done for the night.

Isles look real loose now..things just flowing. Got to be careful not to let up. This is why they say the three-goal lead is the worst in hockey

You're probably right. Tavares has a very deceptive release where he can pull the puck in and shoot which works great for using the dman as a screen.

I hate them. Mostly because of Callahan. (frank) I hate that player. And Ben Bishop. Biggest flopper in the league.
