To be honest, I have no clue why. All that I know is there are a handful of billionaires pumping a ton of money into Detroit and buying up a ton of real estate. They seem to be predicting a comeback.

It's really interesting if you ever find yourself in Detroit -- downtown is actually really nice now. It's just surrounded by filth and squalor. It's been getting better every year for the past decade though, largely in part because of these billionaires. All that I can think is that they have some sort of plan or prediction, because they certainly aren't doing it just because they are sick of Detroit jokes.

Couple of billionaires just announced they're going to build a $1billion MLS stadium in Detroit. Holy woah.

I sort of agree because it isn't likely a large city like Detroit can suck for another 2 decades.

I agree with those in the hockey circle comparing Marner to Kane. I think he will be as good as if not better than Kane, in a few years time.
Does anyone know for certain if Laine is a RW or LW? Some hockey draft prospect sites list him as RW, & others list him as LW.
Leafs are heavy on RW with their prospects (with Marner's size I think they will play him on RW), but light on LW & Centre.

Even Kane was not "as good if not better than Kane" - "in a few years time". Might have the talent. Transitioning the same level from the OHL to the NHL is a giant leap, so maybe tempered expectations might be a better approach.

I wanna see him for 1 year in the AHL with maybe 9 NHL games during the year, before he gets brought up fully.

I know a lot of people are assuming Puljujärvi goes #3, but I do wonder if that is a guarantee... Could Tkachuk go before we pick? I think things get pretty interesting if we're picking 3rd or 4th... if we're 3rd, do we go with Tkachuk? If we're 4th, will he still be there?

Be interesting i could almost see the Leafs taking tkachuk over puljujarvi... Tkachuk brings a bit more grit to his game which this team could use.

That's what sucks though. He can't go to the AHL for another year. So one more year in the O and then one in the A?

Honestly, who knows. There are a lot of young people moving to/back to the city now. I even considered it when I moved apartments recently. The car insurance is still WAY too much there, among some other concerns. Some big companies like Quicken (owner is one of the new MLS owners, also owns the Cleveland Cavs) operating in Detroit making the place better and enticing young people there.

Marner is going to have a hard time his first 30-40 games imo. Not going to be able to pull half the poop he does in the O in the big league. It will be a big adjustment for him. Bold prediction is 62GP 11G 21 A for the Leafs next year.

That would be pretty good I think. I agree, I think it will take a couple of seasons for his game to translate before we will see if he's going to be a big time star or not.

Tough to say, I think at the start of the season the rookies out perform the vets as they are not training as hard/as hungry in the early goings...+ rookie camp, and proving their worth. So younger guys like Larkin for example, come out flying, then they get a bit tired/beat up and the veteran players get in their groove and production soars. guys like Giroux are a good example of that.

anyhow, wel see - im always hoping for the best outcome!

The City is broke ass.. For real.. Really broke. I have been there and and have seen it go from busy to empty, back to where it is today. Has a long way to go.

If Marner makes the Leafs in October and stays the year, he is not going to the AHL the following season, that's nonsense.

I'll be honest with you Lucas. I'd prefer Laine to Matthews so we can ice:

Laine Nylander Marner.

Any alternatives? Could he go play in the Swiss league for a year like Matthews?

Yeah it would be quite unrealistic to think that would happen.

If he makes the Leafs next year, he would be sticking around for good I would imagine...it may hurt his confidence badly to have him up for a year in the N then send him to the A...unless of course a small conditioning stint if he got hurt or whatever.

Nope, he was drafted into the CHL.

NHL or OHL, only options.

I'm thinking in Marners case a big part of his game is his vision and how he's able to set things up. Him Dvorak and tkachuk seem to have great chemistry. Playing with new line mates for the first time will likely be an adjustment that will take Marner ( like any player tho) some time to get used too. I'm hoping for the best but kind of expecting a frustrating first year from him.
