Where was Toews leadership and clutchness?

7 games, This series should have been over in 5. Probably the time to start looking for trades. Must have lost the room or something

Not much but too many moving parts to know for sure now.

Shaw after Kane-Toews makes more commercials than any other player. That could factor into him wanting to stay on a favorable deal.

I heard bonuses kick in for Panarin and does he try to get signed long-term? Or he has more contract left?

Hossa can't be moved unless they eat a bunch of his salary and he is still too valuable,
- Al

He likely retires early, no?

After next year's $4m salary, he only makes a million per year.

I think Crawford is the one to get moved. TT is to valuable to the Hawks with the fact he makes less than 1mil, can play all 3 forward positions - regardless if he's not the player some here expect him to be, yet.

He may be at best a 40pt player in the league. And there's nothing wrong with that when he's behind Kane, Panarin, Toews, Anisimov, etc

I'd love to see them go after Campbell for their number 4 Dman again. I believe he still lives in CHI (his wife from there?) and has his ties with the team still.

Move Crawford to say....Winnepeg. May not get much back - Pavelec & prospect (Lemieux - LW, agitator - Shaw replacement or a guy like Adam Lowry). Yep...Hawks may lose that trade - BUT...does a few things

Frees up $$ - only about 2.1mil next year, but then Pavelec is off the books and they'll use that to sign this Panarin guy. Plus...the expansion draft will be coming up and they'd likely lose Craw/Darling for nothing.

Love Shaw, hope they find a way to keep him. If not, move his RFQ rights for a pick. Buyout Bickell

Go into next year -
Panik - Toews - Kane
Panarin - AA - TT
Lemieux/Lowry-Kruger-Hossa
Desi - Rass - Hartman/McNeil/Baun
Seab-Keith
Campb - Hjarll

Prob not bc the salary cap hit remains the same, regardless of his salary....
He'd be the type of player playing the LTIR game for team if necessary ....

He will be here next year...then he may hang it up. He is not going to be traded to some cap floor team and play for a $1mil...hawks will have to deal with the cap recapture hit...

This is a joke right?

How many posts did Toews hit in this series?

Leadership was not an issue for either team in this series IMO

Pavelec is a sieve but I agree that trading Crawford is the only way to ice a complete roster with their salary cap situation.

Would the Hawks have finished ahead of Minny for the last playoff spot without Crawford?....He goes nowhere.

The reason you gave about TT is why he can be dealt now....Hawks don't need another 4th line player. Now if they plan on playing him higher that is different.

What about TT + Svedberg/Gustaffson for Hamonic? Would the Isles do that deal? Would Chicago be close enough to home for Hamonic?

Then sign Campbell for cheap if possible, and you would have the following top 6:

Keith Seabrook
Hamonic Hjalm
Campbell TVR

Pretty strong defense, no?

Not sure how the dollars would all work out, but I'm sure Bowman could figure it out.

He also had 6 assists on the series. He needed to score last night and I thought it was his quietest game of the series. Seabs-Keith-Toews all needed to be better last night. They weren't, and that's a big reason they lost.

not even close...holy poop...the inter and intra game swings still have me whiplashed...both team had chances to turn tail....

IMHO...hawks not winning G3 or G4 at home was the key...gotta have one of those and maybe they prevail....

Agree he's not very good. But...they'd need someone with NHL experience to back up Darling and there's nothing on the UFA list. Looking more at a team that has the need and means to fill Craw at that hit and the cap savings the following year

There isn't much they can get for Shaw as he is an upcoming RFA....I think they should resign him...Try to get him to do a Kruger like one year deal.
- Al

Al, with SHaw, cant they sign him on a cap friendly hit and just slip him money through endorsements to break him ahead?

Only 3 players had more points in the series than Toews and only one-Schwartz (7) for the Blues.

Rosy must have been near death for Q to dress Rundblad ahead of him last night. And then he puts him out there with Keith most of the time to ruin his game too. There isn't a person in hockey that doesn't know #5 is out on NHL ice playing frightened and the Blues knew that and just pounded him.
- RickJ

What was the prognosis with Rosy? That was really tough seeing 5 and 52 out there.

Good series, tough to swallow since I feel they could have beaten Dallas but a very good team had to be eliminated. And you know what, it wasn't nearly as a brutal physical series as a few years back. Sure, there were hits, but the after the whistle crap wasn't as bad as years past and still not as heart breaking as Conference Final vs LA. The Hawks WILL enjoy their rest over the summer. Stan of course will have his hands full again to replace, but he can do it.

Oh, had a question in regards to Denault. Is he a RFA as well?

Our May and June are now free. Haven't had that since 2012. Still a great time to be a Hawks fan. Proud of the boys as always!

I think getting rid of Crawford would be a worst case we have nothing else to do move. The hawks NEED Crawford. Darling hasn't proved himself to be a starter goalie.

Kruger's contract is 1 million dollars too much. Andrew Shaw will be a casualty of that. You need to move TT, he hasn't proven anything. The hype is gone, move along and take Bryan Bickell with you.

No they can't slip him anything....But he gets those deals on his own and could be a reason he would take less for one year.

It's a risk to move Crow and put the heavy lifting on a young and inexperienced tendy in Darling. However, I think it may be wishful thinking to hope Stan can add players to form a quality 4-6D group, AND keep the entire $5mil+ group.

TT in his first full season had 13 goals and 22 assists = 35 points...yes a big zilch vs the blues...Q trusted him defensively and on the Pk....

yet it feels like he regressed and was huge disappointment

Hawks have about 7 million in cap space to replace 8 players on the NHL roster. Two of them (Shaw and Panik) are RFAs...Shaw is at 2mill, Panik at 900K.

Do the math. The cap structure is a colossal train wreck.

What will Panik get? What will he accept?

Same for Shaw? Why should he "take a discount" when no one else will? He is at 2million, at the very least he is 3million+ (I say around Kruger money).

Shaw's RFA rights may be traded. I suspect Mark McNeill (also an RFA) may be changing addresses. Even if you don't resign Shaw you still are at the 7 million for 8 players. This is fringe NHLers and bargain bin guys.

There is NO WAY around it UNLESS you move a big salary or two. Expect 4 Rockford players to come up and 4 fringer NHLers UNLESS Bowman has a bag of tricks up his sleeve. However, after watching him work last summer where Dallas basically bent him over the barrel I am not convinced he can fix this mess.
