Panthers couldn't score in the back half of the series, plain and simple. The missed call on the Trocheck trip was bad, but then what's the excuse for the Panthers not being able to put the puck in the net for the other 99.8% of the nearly two minutes that there was no goaltender in it?

Their PP went 1-for-8 over the last 3 games, in which they averaged 1.33 G/GP. You want your excuse, there it is. Not one blown call in the third period of one game.

The Islanders were the better team. Florida has to overcome it and score a goal in OT however they did not

Panthers got robbed. The Islanders should have had 2 minor penalties against right before they scored with the goalie pulled. I don't understand how neither of those calls were made.

Part of the game. Your team has to be much better than the opponent to overcome bad officiating, bad luck and hot goalies. The Panthers were just equal to the Islanders so a series can go either way. I do not fully agree on Lu, was a bit disappointed about his play after the great regular season.

Yeah, and did you catch the missed call where the Panthers only scored 4 goals in the final 3 games of the series?

What a laughable and typical blog from you. Let's not mention that Florida had numerous chances in the 3 OT games to bury a chance and could not find a way. Howabout the gift Penalty Shot you received in Game 5's OT and choked away? Howabout not being able to hold leads in this series? Maybe if the NHL changes all their games to first to score wins the game, maybe then the Panthers could have won in 5 games but that's not how it works. Also, let's not take a shot at teams attendance numbers during the regular season when you can't even sellout your playoff games for such a "diehard" market

They lost in game 6 too it's not like they were so close

There were calls not called against Florida. Any Florida fan saying otherwise is too blind to see it.

it was game management at its worst.

should have made the calls, but they didn't.

Panthers will need to learn how to put those things behind them and work through the refereeing.

don't let it get to that point in the first place. game 1 was a prime example, that the panthers weren't 100% ready to play imo. gotta get er done before the zebras and the league get involved...

The officiating was terrible throughout. There is no doubt that Martin blatantly tripped Trochek and it should have been a penalty. The timing of it made it a game decider. But there were many, many, more examples during this series.

You can blame the individual officials, but I think the blame lies higher up. I have no doubt that the referees are instructed to 'let them play' and 'don't decide games'. Of course, we know that this results in them 'deciding games' such as the non-call on Martin.

But remember, this is a league that changes its rules for the playoffs. What would be a 5 game suspension in the regular season is 1 or 2 games in the playoffs. The NHL comes right out and says they do this because 'the games are more important'. So they change the rules and the guidelines for how they discipline in the playoffs. I think they instruct the officials to do the same thing with what they call as penalties.

So it is easy to blame the two zebras that didn't make the calls. But I really think you should be looking much higher when seeking the cause for this gong-show.

Spiegs... dude.. you're taking the term "homer" to a completely new level here...

Was the officiating bad? Of course it was.. for EVERYBODY IN THE LEAGUE!

The Panthers biggest problem is still a lack of offense and an anemic power play.. came back to bite them hard in the playoffs. The continual blaming of the refs is simply asinine..

Panthers ran into a hot goalie, the Islanders capitalized on their opportunities (Tavares carrying them on his back at times), and the Panthers didn't.. end of story.

Dan you are nuts if you think that is why we lost the series. The isles were better than us. They scored 3 goals in ot and we didn't. Grie ss outplayed Luongo. Like it or not, these are the reasons.
Luongo has and still does stink in the playoffs.
Jagr hasn't scored a playoff goal in 4 years.
Our defense is too young and can't hit the net if they tried.
Our pp sucks.
Bjugstad is injury prone.
We are undisciplined and take stupid penalties.

One the other hand the future is bright with Barkov, Mathison, Ekblad, Trocheck, Huberdeau and others.

GREAT regular season, we accomplished our goal of making the playoffs. Now DT needs to find us a goalie of the future, a veteran dman or two, a replacement for Jagr. And a much better assistant coach than John Madden.

What the heck.....a Panther fan that gets it? Honestly, congrats.

Florida lost this series, plain and simple. They could not hold leads, which wasn't surprising because they collapsed a number of times in the last half of the regular season in the third period. They are young. The pressure got to them....and they started to panick. They will learn.

Do I think they got jobbed a few times on penalty calls, yes. Did they get screwed on any of the goal reviews? No. All in all the Isles had a slight advantage when it came to the refereeing, but to say this series should have been 5-1 or 6-0 when a G clearly outplayed your G....well that is just dumb.

Quit your whining, Dan.....it makes you look worse than when you told the world 'just wait, Florida has the best hockey fans around' and then they only filled their building to half capacity.

Ouch

You do know our arena is 3000 seats less and tickets are four times more expensive right? Being further down the list than you is simply a matter of semantics due to the seating total. Also, no one is getting a hot dog and a beer with their 20.00 center ice seats

It's hilarious to see a team get call after call and then complain about the calls they didn't get. I could point to at least 2 dozen instances over the series where penalties went uncalled against the panthers and sketchy calls on the Islanders. Ref all but tried to throw the puck in the net for you in game 5 with that ultra weak penalty shot. And let's not forget how the refs went into full blown Florida mode after the Bjugstad goal was waived overturned. Maybe if Gallant spent some time coaching his team instead of whining at the refs all series long there'd be a game tonight.

Bottom line, both teams could have complained about the officiating in this series. The better team won. Sorry if Linda Cohn and the rest of the "experts" out there got your hopes up.
