Excellent post. look at Rask's career stats. It seems to me that he is trending in the wrong direction.

Rask has better career stats than Carey Price... look at the defense in front of him... it seems to me that the defense is trending in the wrong direction. How can you expect a goalie to bail out a bad defense EVERY SINGLE GAME for two years straight? If you don't think he stole some games for the Bruins then, I think you're mistaken.

The fact that some people don't think Rask is that good is mind blowing to me... I think it's his style honestly. He is so relaxed and smooth, and makes everything look so easy. He's the complete opposite of Tim Thomas... just because he's not scrambling all over the place like an idiot doesn't make him a lesser goalie.

Literally my only issue is with his stomach in big game circumstances... he should have played in the last game, and that is a bad look for Tuukka in the end.

Either way, Tuukka is one of the best in the league... if we had a shred of respectable defense core in front of him, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

The problem is the defense... it's not Rask.

people are just exploring the thought because of his cap hit. but lets very honest. defense aside, even Rask would tell you he needs to be better than he was this year.

Totally agree... I'm sure he's not psyched on his play, but at the same time, I don't think he deserves the blame.

I understand the cap hit argument... I just think it would be a poor move to ship him out strictly because of his cap number. I don't think $7mil is ridiculous for an elite goaltender at this time. It'll be interesting to see what Bishop and Price get... I think they're the next top tier goalies that will be getting contracts. I can see them getting north of $7mil (Price at least), and I think there will be a time where Tuukka's contract looks pretty appealing compared to some others.

No. Top pairing guys can actually hit the net.

Krug had the 4th most shots on net of any defenseman in the NHL... and was only a couple shots behind Karlsson and Byfuglien for the #2 spot...Burns (frank)ing blew the 2nd closest guy away by 105 shots

Did he miss the net more than we'd like to see? Yes... but not recognizing his HUGE offensive upside because of that is foolish.

He was EXTREMELY snake bitten this year... he had a 1.6% shooting percentage this past season... that will go up easily over the next few seasons. He'll hit the net plenty more over his career.

I'd put money on the fact that he has 5-10 more goals next year.

Just did a bit of simple digging... here are the stats... total shot attempts and shots on net. The narrative that Krug doesn't hit the net is (frank)ing stupid.

TOP 5 SHOTS ON DEFENSE:
Burns: TSA:625 - S:353 =56%
Karlsson: TSA:507 - S:248 =49%
Byfuglien: TSA:482 - S:247 =51%
Krug: TSA:469 - S:244 =52%
OEL: TSA:458 - S:228 =50%

100% agree. Give this guy a partner whos on his level and there's no reason to think he couldn't be a top pair guy. He's basically spent his whole career playing with McQuaid and Miller. Krug-Boychuk would have been a respectable top pair

These are the kind of stats that should really make some people shut up eh

I understand shopping rask, but it is a waste of time. Unless we're getting shattenkirk and Allen or Elliot, or Gibson and vatanen, I don't see a trade that makes sense for Rask.

And no I don't think any of those goalies are superior to Rask, but they would not be too much of a step down.
