oh i understand the situation... and i get how a player could feel helpless and wouldnt want to rock the boat, but that still doesnt make it right.

The entire Canadian junior hockey system is a joke - it's a labour exploitation nightmare.

But don't you dare say a bad thing about it - we win Olympic gold medals, so if you don't like it, you aren't a patriotic Canadian.

Franking Hunter brothers make more money than about half of the NHL teams.

reading a few articles on it and I have seen only 1 valid point as to why the NHLPA hasnt fought it.

lets be honest... the biggest feeder league for pro north american hockey is the CHL, its also the most talented feeder league... hence why guys come from other countries to play in here.

if they were to allow these kids to jump straight to pro the AHL and ECHL journeymen would find themselves out of work very quickly... not saying that its right... but its a legitimate argument as to why things are he way they are.

The NHL agreed to it. They won't challenge it.

What you need is a player to challenge it. And that's really difficult - you have to get a kid who is willing to upset the apple cart - a bit risky for a 19 year old who has never played in the NHL.

Although Kenny the Rat was willing to do it...

My guess is if a player did have this overturned (which at face value shouldn’t be too hard), the nhl would bump the draft age up to 19 … in order to keep their key development strong.

I have a really hard time buying the notion that the CHL would suffer if it lost 10-15 kids a year (max) to the AHL.

Let's face it - the North Bays and Shawinigans of the CHL sell tickets because people support the team and the town. Losing Johnny #7 pick overall won't impact their bottom line.

And I doubt a lot of kids would go to the ECHL instead of junior.

On the positive side, it's going to be a great game tonight, and the Pittsburgh-Washington series should be off the hizzay.

Still the choice of the team that drafted the player on where to assign them, no?

But yeah, the chl doesn't seem like it's a risk to lose much.

I read in behind the show. I am at the end of the 3rd book and can't believe how close it is to where the shows plot is at. Having a hard time grasping what can possibly fill two more whole books.

Honestly, anything can happen. He is obviously having issues with that, too. I have no clue where the story is going, but I think it's going to be some epic, world-changing battle. Jon Snow + the North + Khaleesi vs the south and or the white walkers.

Just read Jonas Siegel's piece on T.J. Brennan.

Given the fact that he's gifted offensively but pegged as a defensive liability for the NHL, why hasn't he been shifted to forward?

Thanks Tips.

But seriously... it's not uncommon for players to transition.

no but has a better chance to win something.

I actually think youre wrong..

Edmonton will turn things around very soon.. McDavid will have the same effect Crosby had in Pitt.. And theres already a better support cast in place in Edm than when Sid started in Pitt.

I've read all 5 books twice now waiting for #6. The wait is even more frustrating than the differences in the show.

Hopefully by the time you're finished reading Dance with Dragons, #6 will be out already.

I have been waiting for each book since the series started. He is the slowest writer on the planet.

The Montreal Tampa and Leafs Tampa trades are GOLD!

Stamkos for JVR, 2 firsts and a second, I actually laughed out loud at that one.

thats what i mean.... how has an NHL club not looked into challenging this in the courts? its nothing more than forcing grown men to work for free.

its becoming an unfair advantage for NCAA and Euro players.... look at it this way... if a team is torn on drafting a euro guy and a junior guy and has them roughly even in talent... why would they take the guy that they would have to wait two years to start developing professionally?

- Dozzer

I totally agree. I find it mystifying that this has not been challenged.

In fact, I am really surprised that any restrictions on where players can play hasn't been challenged. I am surprised that professional drafts have not all been eliminated altogether. I can only assume that all parties involved have decided that it would be too damaging to the game.

RNH for Brodin and a 2nd was a good one too. He hasn't fallen nearly that far

Did someone poop on a piece of paper and have someone try to decipher?
