Gerbs, you are wrong on this one.

A leader (captain) does not have to be the best player. Gionta is the captain because he has the most experience and has been through all the growing pains that the Sabres young guys will go through. And then he found success. He knows what it takes.

Sure, RoR would be a good captain, but I am sure he is already a voice in the room and a leader on the ice. Letters on the jersey mean nothing. The guys that know how to lead, do just that. I am sure there are probably a handful of guys on every team that could be a captain.

The point of Gionta being captain is semantics to me... I get that he's going to play out the final year of his deal and unless he picks up his point production next season with his age I would NOT renew him for another contract. He's fine being captain for next season but he's not the kind of player I want on the team in anything but a 4th line role going forward.

That's not happening, Murray will live and die with Lehner.

I do not want to see him resigned, as well.

One more year and he retires.

Gionta was captain when he was good but not great this dude does nothing for us.When we need him he goes on point streak when the playoffs are over with and that's our captain...

ROR played every game like it was the last game to make playoffs
He talked about the team to the PR every game did gionta????? Nope

- gerbe75pts

gionta was fine as a captain on a team of kids

to say gionta should hand it over to a player that went 26 STRAIGHT GAMES w/o a goal is being disrespectful to a class act player who has his name on the cup IMO

About five years ago, I suggested that Buffalo should trade Miller for Howard straight up. Could not have been any worse, and a lot cheaper as well.

Young teams on the rise need veterans like Gionta. Pittsburgh had Bill Guerin, Chicago had John Madden, etc...

I agree, as long as he doesn't majorly drop off this coming season.

I'd bring legwand back for 1 year if he wanted a 1.5 mil contract

I was drinking bourbon manhattans at some GastroPub near the UofR last night.

Smart girls are heavy, apparently.

People say we should trade Kane because there will be no room for him wrong, get rid of Girgensons because there is NO USE for him.
